Hi guys.

I felt awesome and so proud to build and play this solid deck at the spanish tournament of ZGZ VII. I think it was a good read of the meta but a couple of bad tempo decisions, and a great player, made me lose at the TOP to a good matchup as Targaryen is. It is so resilient to burn and resets as you always have the resources, money and draw, to come back. You can play passive and put so much pressure on your rival. But at the same time it feels so strong that you can take the initiative according to the rival and game tempo. Locations are crazy powerful and the 3 HJ were a good decision to save a lot of painful situations (We do not sow, Dracarys, Doran's game, Taste for flesh, Lady Sansa's Rose, etc).

Protecting your Hightower is vital so make sure you start with another cheap location to avoid Nothing burns like the cold if you suspect they might have it (Greyjoys or Wars to come agendas).

Only lost one game in swiss against a TOP 4 Tyrell Crossing knights deck. Too fast despite of Valar and Varys resets.

SOME KEY CARDS / MVP situations: -Hightower Spy revealing a Renly Baratheon card to turn your Renly on board to a 13 str and triggering oldtown for a sure card and extra power. -Oldtown: Fun and brutal. Lots of power and draw. -Hightower: Best location in the game. No words needed. Will be always your rival's target. Play it with brain. -Leyton: Free hightower or other locations, amazing to trigger spies or olenna's informant effects and bring extra bodies to die or being marched for free. Extra power for Mace, extra triggers of hightower in between phases and a lord for Marge. -Mace: Hammer. Power non stop. Love this guy. People hates him. Just bring him in game when hightower is placed and he can be protected. -Margaery: She is love. -Compelled by the faith: Best addition ever for the current meta. Take all your valuable renowns to your safe house card. Anytime you suspect Valar is coming, you see the new Arya being marshalled or you just feel unsafe by having Mace and other guys loaded of tokens, it is the time to reveal it. -2x Trade Routes: Always ready for more fight. -Etcetera

Please guys, try it, have fun and let me know your opinion or doubts. It is a serious contender so pilot it for the win.

Thanks to Jaino for his resourceful insights and to Reinhard for some high level training and advice while playing in Throneteki.

Congratulations to Kaikou for the win.

Cheers :)

Nice deck! Don't you think that a) 1-2 flea bottoms and b) the rains agenda could make the deck even more stable/consistent?

Lannister 557

Hi mate. Had 1 Flea bottom until the last minute, but I decided to change it for the Renly's Pavilion. Thing is that I always had plenty of money and ambushes in my hand. So if you find the place for 1, it is ok, but after all games are gonna be 6 rounds long and never felt like decisive. Mace is not a good match for castamere. I'm a castamere fan, but this is more a defensive deck and never missed it. Try it and tell me how it was :)

Lannister 557

I meant, games not usually last more than 6 rounds unless you play against Martell which is a very good pairing too for this deck.

This deck performed wonderfully against the Targaryen/Lord of the Crossing 2017 Champ Deck, winning decisively in two consecutive matches.

Margaery Tyrell is the MVP of this deck, allowing you to come out strong of any resets like Valar Morghulis. In one case I traded Paxter Redwyne for Renly Baratheon after Paxter got the Crown of Gold. In another, Renly Baratheon was replaced by Randyll Tarley after a Valar Morghulis that left only Margaery and Khal Drogo standing. Protect Margaery at all costs! Additionally, Mace Tyrell allowed me to clean a Crown of Gold off of Renly Baratheon by removing him from the game for a phase,

One of the biggest coups was when I correctly guessed that my opponent was getting ready to play Valar Morghulis as I had significant board advantage with power on almost all of my characters. I flipped Compelled by the Faith and chose myself and my effect to happen first, banking bout eight power onto the faction card that would've otherwise been flushed.

Finally, this deck had great economy options and I never had to worry about gold. This is a top rate deck in my opinion!

Thanks mate! I'm glad you enjoyed it. When did you play it? Is there something you would change after using it yourself?

Lannister 557

I had the change to try it with the actual pilot of that deck you mention a couple of times before the tournament and was a success.

Hi Lannister! Very nice deck and congratulations for your showing. Was the one gold for kings of summer and the plus 1 reserve often very useful. I see that the reserve helps with late summer feast for sure. But apart from that i wonder if it would not be better to have three more plots with the wars to come agenda.

Lannister 557

I tried both Wars and Summer for a while. The arbor vineyards, the summer interaction with Robar Royce, the reserve and getting morghulis and other useful plots back sooner every time made this deck way more solid and it does need a lot of economy to work properly because of the cost of the locations, Mace, having enough for hand's judgments, etc

Lannister 557

And forgot to mention how important is to have enough cash to bring ambushes every round to have extra bodies on the board and trigger the spies

I wouldn't say anything was bad. I never got a chance to put Brienne of Tarth into play in either game, but think that with Renly Baratheon, she would never hurt.

I had Varys in hand but never really any cause to play him. Valar Morghulis is probably enough of a reset, but I never wanted to use that plot. I think that this deck doesn't really want to reset the board with all its strong renown characters, relatively few of which have duplicates and the ease in which you can get them onto the board. Valar Morghulis is probably enough of a safety valve. I think I'd replace Varys with Littlefinger: cheaper, stronger, more versatile, can provide clutch card draw without the long term draw back of Pleasure Barge and he's an econ booster as well.

Regarding locations, although I never had to use it in my matches, Isle of Ravens is important to combat against the Flea Bottom Meta we all live in. The Champ Targ deck specifically uses Flea Bottom to make Second Sons a strong never-ender. Oldtown on the other hand is a cool bonus but not worth a triple copy. I used it three times and got two power off of it, but in both games that wasn't decisive power gain. I think it would be better to have triple Isle of Ravens and single Oldtown.

Lannister 557

Wow ok, Oldtown for me was an insane source of draw and power even more with the spies telling me what it was every time. Varys helped me a lot of times against powerful greyjoys or small knights decks when Valar is not optimal. The difference is that you always have more resources to come back better. Happy you enjoyed it, keep testing ;)

Kentucky Shaun 39

I did that once but for the most part, didn't have both pieces of that combo ready to go when it would've helped. You could still do it with a single Oldtown, but when I think of how Flea Bottom allows Lannister to pull off The Hound ping pong and jump around spies and small Clansmen, Martell to get so much more use out of Areo Hotah and some of their lesser bastards and spies and the fact that it's basically a pre-req for most Targaryen decks I've seen in the past few months, Isle of Ravens can't be understated.

Lannister 557

For playing the passive power game you need some basic pieces, otherwise another type of built closer to a Castamere style could be very good for you too!

Congrats on your tourney run, tough field to play in. Have you considered running Leyton at 2 or 3x? He synergizes so well with Mace/Hightower, and in my experience seems to draw a lot of attention that might be otherwise directed at Marge or Mace.

Lannister 557

Hi buddy. I strongly agree, he is nuts. However being a x1 he did a hell of a job, and I gotta say that as he rarely fights being knelt the most of the time and without renown, removing other characters could make the deck weaker. Thanks buddy

Kentucky Shaun 39

Had a game that went long forcing me to play Valar Moghulis in the seventh round, losing me the game. This deck grows it’s board so fast, I doubt it needs VM to reign in the opponent. If this needs a reset, how about Wildfire Assault? Or, maybe You Win or You Die as a closer?
