Hi everyone!

Since I enjoyed my very first experience with this format and did pretty well with the deck despite being an absolute rookie (never played a single game before saturday), I decided to share it for all the melee players who are way more experienced than me out there.

First of all, I must say that I don't think that is deck is optimized at all: some cards need to be replaced for sure, and I bet that if anyone enough expert in the format will try the deck he'll be able to make it a lot better after a couple of games.

Secondly, I want to thanks Laplante, Luiz, Jake and Sam for helping me putting the deck together in so few time: the main idea came from my Laughing Tree deck but I needed to add melee cards and to understand how melee worked to make it a good melee deck, and you all helped a lot in that.

The idea of the deck is to deal with the board and player hand early game and use shadows cards for trades: players tend to be generous with you to avoid all your shadows threats to target their beloved characters. Banner wolf is needed for Bran and Arya mainly, since she deals very well with dupes, helping cards like pinch, catspaw, Robert Strong and Varys.

The power grab of the deck is granted by Heads on Spikes + Tyrion chain and Joffrey.

Joff is very very good with all the targeted kill, spikes are often a 100% hit after you emptied someone's hand with cersei and bounce a character in his hand.

Cersei is amazing since she discards cards from everyone's hand, dealing pretty well with all the cancels and counters a player could have.

Changes I would make to the deck:

  • -1 VD + 1 Wildfire: this was pretty obvious but brewing the deck at 3 a.m. didn't help
  • -2 Vanguard +2 Bolton Flayer: cheap shadow which annoys opponents and give trading opportunities. It also helps managing yours and the opponents Forced March better
  • -3 Tywin +3 dunno: Tywin is tooooooo expensive, I think he doesn't belong the deck. For sure one could become the third Robert Strong.

Considerations on other cards:

  • Duel: Very strong in melee and repeatable with Tyrion Chain. You have bank and clever feint to protect Robert and Cersei from it
  • Treachery: not many lanny uniques. Can trade for not playing treachery on something even if it's not in the deck (did it lol!!!). Still, the card is strong and could belong to the deck.
  • Underhand methods: surprise win, but it didn't shine. Maybe can be replaced.
  • Golden Tooth: OP in melee since there was always someone without cards. The card is unique though. Maybe it's worth a 3x.

That’s it for now, I hope to receive feedbacks and suggestions from you to improve the deck!

If you never tried the format do it cause it’s really really funny!

@Beciakudunno stands for don’t know sorry... I always played in 4 (I think tournaments are always 4 or 3) @PorcoRouxoTommen should definitely be in deck. As I wrote, it was made at 2 am the day before the tournament... :)
