Yes, Queensguard Renly is good. I used this deck to win the Berlin Prime Championship https://thejoustingpavilion.com/tournaments/7126,
I always argued that the "combo" deck with Growing Ambition I played at Euros this year wasn't really combo, but abused the economy advantage of Littlefinger's Meddling. With Growing Ambition now restricted, I wanted to build a "normal" Renly Queensguard deck that includes all the economy advantage cards that and offer: the one true king Hizdahr zo Loraq, The Bounty of Highgarden, Missandei, Ser Jorah, Aegon Targaryen, Freedmen, Seal of the Hand, Trading with the Pentoshi.
Add some more renown with stand/non-kneeling (Randyll Tarly, Brienne, Margaery Tyrell, Daario Naharis, Mercenary Contract, Highgarden Courtier) and additional power gain (Brightwater Host, The Honeywine) and you will win fast. This deck runs almost no counter, but your superior tempo should put the opponent on the back foot.
- Open Trading with the Pentoshi if you have a big guy in hand.
- Since you probably have the bigger board, I have Compelled by the Faith and Return to the Fields (nice plot with Freedmen) to answer resets.
- The First Snow of Winter is good against , which is quite popular right now, and fuels your discard effects by recycling Missandei etc. Bonus points for hitting the opponent's You Win Or You Die.
- The King in the North and A Game of Thrones are your control plots with the latter one being amazing against The Lord of the Crossing and Sea of Blood.
