Lanni Kraken: 1st Place TN Regional 1.0

I shamelessly modeled this after the Brotherhood's Lanni Kraken build and won the 17-player Regional yesterday in Hendersonville, TN. Calm Over Westeros (the pack) was legal, but not in the deckbuilder yet, so the 3rd Fishmonger was Bronn, the 2nd Things I Do for Love was Trial by Combat, and the 2 Risens were Iron Mines.

After the tourney, I'd drop Tickler for a 3rd Fishmonger to improve the odds of a Tywin setup. I'm considering dropping Trial by Combat for a 3rd Iron Mines, again primarily to improve setups, and maybe drop the 3rd Asha for Rattleshirt's Raiders. I tried Long Winter all week in place of Calm Over Westeros (the plot) with mixed results. It warrants more testing, especially if you keep a Trial by Combat.

I want to thank the store owner and the local Tennessee guys, as well as all of my opponents, for a fantastic tournament. It was well worth the drive up from Atlanta. I suppose Josh B deserves a shoutout too, for helping me prepare and talk strategy throughout the day. :)

Rd 1 vs Josh N with Lanni Dragon

I setup a Fishmonger, Syrio, Iron Mines, and Western Fiefdom to his Jaime, Braided Warriors, and Roseroad. Turn 1, he went first and marshalled Mirri Maz Duur. I Summoned Tyrion and marshaled him, then my opponent made the mistake of initiating an intrigue challenge, which gave me enough gold to ambush Burned Men and put Mirri to the sword. Then First Snow, Cersei, and Gregor cleaned up for me.

Rd 2 vs Parker with Lanni Kraken

I mulliganed an awful setup in a worse one -- Cersei and Kingsroad, while he has Pycelle, duped Asha, and a Roseroad. I figure I'm way behind already, so I may as well gamble. I flip Marched, anticipating Parker doing the same, but he didn't. Game over.

Rd 3 vs Zach with Stark Fealty

I setup 2x Merchants, Red Cloaks, and Cersei. Turn 2 my First Snow did work, then Cersei + Trial by Combat murdered most of his board. Marched and Gregor cleaned up the next turn.

Rd 4 vs Chris with Lanni Crossing

Chris offered to ID, because with only 17 players and a cut to top 8 we would both be guaranteed a place in the cut.

Top 8 vs Crystal, 2nd seed with Bara Fealty

Without any attachment control, I had no answer for something as simple as a duped Robert with Lightbringer. Fat Bob wrecked my board for a couple turns while I worked on clearing the rest of my opponent's characters, hoping to setup a Marched to discard the Usurper. Thanks to a lucky Gregor hit, I got that chance, and the game turned quickly in my favor.

Top 4 vs Shaun, 4th seed with Lanni Crossing

Extremely close game. We both had Hound + Tyrion from turn 1. I fell behind in power something like 9 or 10 to 2, so had to play defensively. Around turn 4 or 5 I finally managed to land a Tears on the Hound, then pass my mil/pow challenges so he died. Next turn Tywin, Gregor and Jaime won it for me.

Final vs Parker, Lanni Kraken

In a rematch from my only loss, I had a respectable setup this time. Turn 1 we both marshal Tywin with Noble Cause. Turn 2 I flip Calling, to net 11 gold. Marshal Kingsroad, sac it and kneel Fishmonger to play Newly-Made Lord for free and discard Parker's Iron Mines. Then marshal Gregor, leaving me with enough gold for my own Iron Mines and a Sword on his Tywin. In challenges Parker only had a single gold left, one short of cancelling my Sword with HJ. It was over quickly after that.

So I won the tourney, and more importantly had a great time playing some tense matches all day. I hope to see ya'll in two weeks at the Atlanta regional on May 7th, where I'll be TOing and we have some fantastic prizes. Also, if you think this deck is OP, play more Bara.
