The idea of this deck is to maximise new A Dragon Is No Slave event. Targaryen burn still requires several effects to work at once to kill but the main advantage CP2 and CP3 will introduce are repeatable burn effects. With cards like Plaza of Punishment, Blood of the Dragon and Dracarys! it is possible to kill characters with burn every turn even without Astapor.

Or course burn will be way stronger with Astapor and Grey Worm but with repeatable burn effects and kill (Khal, Mirri) opponent should have hard time marshalling enough characters to keep up. Right now MIL pressure is a factor in burn. Claim soakers should be burnt and big characters taken as claim.

A Dragon Is No Slave also allows to target non-engaged characters (Maester Aemon (Core), Margaery Tyrell (Core) for example). It is also most effective during POW challenges. Unsullied, Plaza of Punishment, Daenerys Targaryen and A Dragon Is No Slave allows characters with even STR 6 to burn when defending a POW challenge.

I removed Beggar King as most opponents remove in right away with Confiscation and it is a dead draw late game. Deck works great without it.

I am already 5:1 in test games (wins against Tyrell/Crossing, Bara/Fealty, Lannister/Fealty, FJ/Winter, NW/Crossing). One loss was a long game vs Bara/Fealty (new Melisandre (GtR)) in which I did not get ANY burn... This deck puts a lot of pressure on opponent's board from turn 1. This is very important against rush decks (Tyrell especially). I usually get 4 dead characters to pump Slaver's Bay Port plot 2 or 3 max.

Most consistent combo is Plaza of Punishment + A Dragon Is No Slave. Blood of the Dragon is always a massive plot too (I have killed Margaery Tyrell (Core), Randyll Tarlywith 2 other characters in a match against Tyrell only with A Dragon Is No Slave and Plaza of Punishment). Very flexible plot. Opener, after Valar etc. Depends on my board and hand. Sometimes after I play Crown of Gold on someone (to burn it in plot phase). Sometimes to prevent Ghosts of Harrenhal from hitting a big dude.

I am considering a second copy of Plaza of Pride - I am always happy when I see it and it messes table math by a lot. My first option is to reduce Nightmares to two copies but still not sure. I sometimes find it very helpful. sometimes not (unless Plaza of Pride is there of course - Jhogo is the best target for a 1 cost event to stand).

In general - I am more than happy to see burn in action after a long time after 1.0.

Thanks for sharing! Nice write-up. Been out of the meta for a bit but going to build this to bring to a casual night this week.

Can you talk about the plots a bit more? Still rolling with these 7 or have you made changes?

@s.the.dornishmanSure.

My opening plot depends on what I see on a table.

  1. Summer Harvest - when by post set-up board looks better than my opponents in terms of MIL/POW (with plaza) I open with this plot. For two reasons. First is to get better gold than my opponent OR to hit his Summer Harvest and reduce the am mount of gold we both have to start with. 1 Dracarys! or Plaza kill + MIL claim is usually enough to pressure the board.

  2. Calm Over Westeros is also a great opener especially when I have no INT icons on a table.

  3. Time of Plenty - I like this one especially as a draw option

Other plots are not economy plots and their role is different. Valar Morghulis / Blood of the Dragon are resets. Valar is a hard reset, Blood is a soft one. Especially with Plaza of Punishment on a board and A Dragon Is No Slave in hand.

Counting Coppers is a great plot to have in Targ. Also Marched to the Wall is a must-have in a deck like this. I use Counting Coppers when I have 4-5 cards. Digging into a deck for more cards is always a good option. Especially when You have at least one Slaver's Bay Port and You expect Valar Morghulis.

If I were going to change something I would go for Calm Over Westeros. I think I would replace it with Close Call (draw and resurrection effect).

I was testing Great Hall lately instead of The Roseroad. I was testing 2x GH and 1x RR but I two The Roseroad and one copy of Great Hall works better. On a latest tournament I have played against GJ who had 3x Risen from the Sea and 3x Iron Mines in play by plot... 2. The key of this deck is to keep pressure on opponent's board. This is why I consider another Mirri Maz Duur but this would require more Great Hall in this deck. Against the GJ I was able to constantly kill his claim soakers and then force him to use all his mines before I Valar.

In a was like this Plaza of Punishment + Dragon + A Dragon Is No Slave is fantastic! You challenge with a dragon, stand him with Plaza of Pride using A Dragon Is No Slave then pay 1 gold to get it back :D

Now I am waiting for a Fall of Astapor to boost this deck by a bit :D

@MiSiOunfortunately none of my meta-mates could get together this week. I'll let you know how it goes when I get it to table.
