This is the deck, which granted me the victory in MFP on June 17. It was a long day but I managed to keep my concentration and achieve this good result. I went 4-2 after six matches and got into top 16 till the final, where I won against my dear friend @Loras Tyrell. The strategy of the deck is pretty simple: you want to drop Dany or Khal and keep board control with Dracarys, Astapor and Plaza of Punishment. That is standard Targ style. The Iron Throne was a very good add since it granted me that boost of powers i needed to win so in my opinion is the best card of the deck because helps you a lot against NW, Bara and Martell as well. Fortified Position runs very well in Targ Decks since you just need dragons to drop a good Dracarys and you actually don't care if Khal or Dany get blank for one turn. Trust me, that plot hurts your opponent a lot.
You want to see asap economy of course and The Iron Throne. I used to open with Counting Coppers in case I didn't have any of them. That is a pretty solid opening plot, it grants you 10 reserve or 11 if you have the Throne ;) and actually 2 golds are enough to start. You can keep Late Summer Feast for a later use. Otherwise you open with Late Summer Feast and reveal Counting Coppers next turn. It is just about which cards you see in your setup. Both are great opening plots.
Tourney Report:
Swiss:
Greyjoy LoTC - W: I played against a very good player from Austria, he was very nice and we had a very good match. I opened with Late Summer Feast and he went Summer Harvest so his first turn was very consistent but I managed to keep the board with few characters and that helped me a lot against his agenda. The Throne granted me the powers to close the match.
Martell Fealty - W: I did the same opening of the previous match and I ran into Summer Harvest again so my opponent had 11 golds to drop Jaquen and hurt me a lot. He killed Khal, Rhaegal and Quaithe. Venomous Blade was on the filed as well and my start wasn’t good at all. But after resetting with Valar, where I lost 3 cards for Bastard ability (there were 3 of them on the field xD) I was lucky enough to have more characters in hand than my opponent (a very sweet guy from Poland) and I managed to recover. Guess what? The Throne achieved the victory.
Lannister Banner of the Rose - W: My opponent was very low in economy since the beginning. He opened with Pentoshi and he dropped two good pieces but his characters were too expensive. He drew quite a lot with two Pleasure Barge but that -2 income was too much and he couldn’t keep up. I was very lucky since I think Targ has a bad time against Lanni and Tyrell with huge STR characters.
Targaryen Fealty - L: Well what to say, my brain was like exploding mid game. You can imagine why.. Two Blood of the Dragon plots, two Astapor, two Plaza. My opponent was very good and we kept fighting for quite a while. I had to surrender at the end. His Mirri duped was too much for me. Mirrors are mirrors xD
Greyjoy Rains of Castamere - W: Fortified Position was a key plot. I kept Euron under control and killed him with Astapor plus Dracarys into Marched to the Wall on Victarion. That pretty sums up the match.
Greyjoy Rains of Castamere - L: What to say about this match? I played against my very good friend Simone Fanecco, very solid player from our meta here in Milan. I was glad he could make it to the tournament but it was a bit unfortunate for me facing him cos it is never an easy match of course. He played very patient and he dropped Victarion and Euron both duped with one Iron Mine as well. I could have played surely better, waiting for my dupes but I revealed Valar on his 2 8 2 plot and that killed me. I surely could have played safer with Fortified and keep waiting but I don’t think it would have been different. Anyway he deserved the win and he got it. But our fights don’t end here Simo!! Beware ;D xoxo
My journey in Top 16 was like a déjà vu from my previous matches as you will see.
Top 16, Targaryen Fealty - W: Well that was a re-match cos I faced again my friend Riccardo from Treviglio. Very mind and tough game of course but I managed to win eventually. He duped Dany in 3x so she survived 2 Valar but I dropped early game Astapor and that helped a lot. Very close game. 1-1 our score but I won the important match, lucky me!
Top 8, Martell Fealty - W: Re-match time again. My opponent went Summer Harvest on my Counting Coppers and his start was very slow. I picked Jaquen from intrigue claim and I had complete control in this match. The game was recorded so youtube link will soon follow. He couldn’t keep up with Boneway and The Throne was a huge help.
Top 4, Greyjoy LotC - W: Guess what? Re-match. This was probably the most difficult match of the day. My opponent had 6 powers in plot 2 and I was really worried. Victarion and Asha were killing me. I discarded one Hand’s Judgement from his hand for intrigue claim and it was a very good pick cos I killed his Asha with Dracarys. He tried to counter the event with his other Hand’s Judgement but I also had one. Fortified Position helped me for another turn. Newly-Made Lord shot my poor Astapor and that hurt a lot.. I was rowing like crazy, trying to keep up.. Dany was milked as well as Khal Drogo but I had all three dragons so I could count on Dany’s renown. I burnt two characters with Plaza and Dany with stealth grabbed some powers. His Raiding Longship was useless against my attached Dany so she could oppose challenges and get renown. Very close match. I eventually won.
Final, Martell Fealty - W: I faced one of my best friend Lorenzo Triboli, aka Loras Tyrell. It was incredible to achieve this great result with him and get to the final. He is very performing and he was brave enough to bring this brand new Martell deck. We playtested a lot together and I couldn’t have hoped for a better final match. The match was recorded so you will all see how it went but essentially I was lucky enough to gain few powers at the start with two power challenges without getting my hand destroyed by His Viper Eyes. I drew Littlefinger and that helped a lot my draw. No Throne for me so he always won dominance but after his Varys I won some unopposed challenges that brought me to 13 powers. It wasn’t easy to close the match but Crown of Gold on Areo Hotah on Blood of the Dragon plot surely helped me getting his board controlled. He dropped two characters but I managed to win a power challenge and an intrigue one unopposed.
Anyway we both won the final and this OUR victory!

Bravissimo Luca, congrats on your win! |

Here's the link to my TOP 8 match! Enjoy! youtu.be |
Brilliant Counting Coppers opening against Summer Harvest, plus a very brutal 2nd turn with Nightmares on Ghaston (probably changed the game!). I didn't watch the game while I was there, it is cool to see how both needed to think carefully their moves in such a matchup |

i'm curious. What went into the deck considering only 1 Plaza of Pride, no Grey Worm, no Magister Illyrio and 2 House Maester? |
|
Yup. Thanks for the insight :) |
|
I see a lot of Political Disaster these days. How does the deck pay around those? It seems to be very location dependant |
Fortified Position is a really good shout, like that a lot. |

I like it. It I less heavy on expensive characters than most decks. No surprise with three #Astapor. I myself have problem to choose between maximum number of #Astapor and both Plazas... |
Oh... How you handle The First Snow of Winter with all those cheap dudes? This plot is very popular anti Targ plot lately. |

I know it would be nice to play every location in 3x but you have to make a choice since I prefer to run a 60 cards deck. Anyway you are more than welcome to try it out and let me know how it performs. Surely Late Summer Feast is better than Trading with Pentoshi because, as you said, 1 or 2 cards drawn by your opponent are not a tragedy. Well remember you can open up with Counting Coppers if you smell your opponent runs Summer Harvest. I like that opening a lot as well.. Actually I do open with that plot quite often ;) |

Great watch. Thanks for sharing. Cool You guys used old Fracas house cards :) |
|
I love the previous ones most. Those on a white backgrounds: So I can expect You guys in Warszawa this summer? :D |
|
I hope we will meet there. I have another question (I know, I know) this time about Close Call. I am also considering it (with 2 copies of Fire and Blood) as a eco+recursion+draw option but I use Time of Plenty. Why You use Close Call it this deck? |
|
My latest concern about our beloved Targ. How to deal with Stark. Bran+Winterfel+Caltelyn shut me down lately so badly (well... 12/15 but I was unable to use ANY burn). |

According to Youtube Top4 was Targ Fealty vs Lannister Rains, not vs GJ Crossing. Link: www.youtube.com |
Hi |
Would Grey Worm fit in this deck? If so, which cards would you take out for him? |
Hi |
Here is truly the best deck from Milan Fighting Pits and, imo, the most interesting interpretation of Targ right now. So proud that I helped you test this beast, which you piloted so well all day notwithstanding your head exploding ahah. And also shoutout to TJ23 (i'm sure he'll comment soon) who got the first idea for including Fortified Position. Seriously, the one and only true gladiator of the Fighting Pits :D
