This is the deck that got me a TOP 16 spot with 5-2 in my first premier event. First of all I would like to thank Dave, Vince, Wamma and Joe for the impeccable event. Loved every minute of it, from the festive Friday until the melee on Sunday afternoon, everything went very well! Meeting the international thrones community was an a lot of fun! I will see you all again at the castle!

About the deck:

The plan is to keep the board small, keep killing or discarding key characters until the opponent runs out of steam. Meanwhile you gain power by winning dominance and getting some unopposed challenges and standing Sansa. You want to go second most of the time to kill chuds with venomous blade or steal some key characters with ward.

Some of the card choices:

Venomous blade: This might be the most important card in this deck. Being able to kill a chud in marshalling and keep applying pressure on your opponent is super important.

Ward and Harrenhal: During testing we were in doubt about how many to run of each but the prevalence of targaryen dragons and NW made us decide 2 Wards might be better than 3. We only ran 2 Harrenhal bcause of the faction kneel which clashed with Secret Schemes

The stark weenies: Again big discussion about how many to run of Arya, Sansa and Jojen. I doubted they all needed to be 3offs but my Meta-mate Flor (who played the same deck) convinced me. He was probably right! Perfect for setup and saves for valar and the many Varys we faced. Jojen works so good to keep your opponent from recovering when you discard a character from the top of his deck

Myrcella: We needed renown to speed up the deck. Myrcella did not face a lot of kings so she did a great job!

Frozen Solid: Location hate is so important in this current meta.

Syrio Forel : Probably a mistake. We thought he would help us against builders for some stealth. Would cut him for a smaller military icon

Tears of Lys: you know why!

Secret Schemes: The card that makes Martell work. We tested 3 copies and no counting, but combining 2 secret schemes with the on demand draw from counting seems to work the best for us.

Tournament report:

Round 1 against Joel Pearson Tyrell-Lion (Win)

Oh Great! The Hyper Viper Regional winner in round 1.I was missing triggers left and right (while Joel tried to remind me to trigger them, great guy) and was in a very bad spot. But after a while he just ran out of steam. Tinder Marge was out of Lords and Kings to search for. I got really lucky Joel drew both Jaimes and discarded them. After 8 plots I got the win by grinding out the dominance and some unopposed challenges. I was super excited and felt confident for the rest of the day. Joel was a very inspiring guy and gave me some great advice for the remaining rounds

Round 2 against Rowandra Bara Fealty (Win)

Paul had an unlucky start. Only Davos on setup. Very annoying character to get rid of so I was very happy to March turn one. He made a small error during round 1 when he only marshalled Robert with a dupe and a bodyguard and passed me the turn. Immediately realising his mistake but the damage was done. Marched 2 came down and he couldn’t recover.

Round 3 against Kevin Richardson Martell Fealty (Win)

Battle of the Weenies. I knew I had to building order turn one into venomous blade. Got another one on draw and was able to keep Kevs board empty. He was playing very focused but there was no way his weenies were recovering from two blades each turn.

Round 4 against David Comerford Targ Rose (Loss)

David had all the answers While i didn’t see any good cards. These games happen. At one point my hand was , 3 frozen solids, 3 venomous blades, and 2 dupes of a dead Sansa. If I had drew a few more characters I might have stood a chance but David controlled the game from the start with some beautiful fire and blood into dracarys action.

Round 5 against Ben Royles Tyrell Lion (Win)

The most interesting deck I played all day. Knights and Ladies rush. Ben started of on a steamroll. Jamie and the Knight of Flowers attacked 4 times turn one with double there’s no man like me. But my deck did what it had to do, Ben ran out of steam soon and was able to grind my way back with some blades into marched.

Round 6 against Daniel Kaye Martell Kraken (Loss)

Daniel was a blast to play against. He used his icon stealing package with great efficiency, slowing me down while he controlled the board. Did not stand a chance but had some amazing banter!

Round 7 against Stefan Folteringham Targ Rose (Win)

I knew I had a great Sos so a win would get me in top 16. I was really nervous going into this game. Stefan got really unlucky and saw only one roseroad, which prevented him from developing his board. My deck loves a small board and I was able to control the game.

TOP 16 against Kevin Richardson Martell Fealty (Loss)

The REMATCH. Remember I wrote that Kev was playing very focused in our round 3 game? Apparently that helps! Kev outplayed me every turn. I went for the same strategy trying to get two venomous blades and start applying pressure. Kev had a cheeky vengeance for Elia turn one which prevented me from marching turn two and losing my only Martell character in play and thus being unable to play my blades. What followed next was some of the most impressive plot choices I ever faced. Kev was able to predict my every move and counter each of my choices. The game was over by plot five and while really disappointed i didn’t make Top 8 I was happy I lost this way. Outplayed by a better Martell Player!

And thus ended my battle at Blackwater bay.

Thanks, looks like a fun deck. Did you consider running Retaliation? And did Duel deliver for you or was it too situational?

Gerion Lannister 241

Congratulations! :)

Didn't you miss His Viper Eyes or The Hand's Judgment?

@Knight_Who_Says_NiDuel is really dependant on the meta I think. We decided to include it because noone expects you to play such a situational card. People did not play around it all day and I think i hit two or three times in 7 games.

@Gerion LannisterWe tested His Viper Eyes a lot but in the end they got cut for 2 extra characters. Hand's Judgement is not really that important I feel, maybe for some GJ saves cancel but that's about it.

I lovelovelove this deck. i took it to a 4:0 win in a on saturday(14player). played against: Tyrell Rains, Targaryen kraken, Targaryen kraken and Tyrell crossing. I tweaked it a little bit. I cutted Syrio, Silent sisters 2 jojen reed and 1 roseroad. Put in 2 last of the giants, 3 Varys and one Dornish fiefdom. Now iam at 61 cards (this was a mistake of mine :D). I look forward to cut the tears and attained to put in some secret Tech... or just more of the good cards like harenhall. Tears didnt do anythink for me, i simply didnt need it. the best card was by far the blade. it helped multiple times to clear the board. Duel was unused too, but it will stay in the deck. "good" players try to play around it, but that helped me most xD. the plot has a 4g and 5 ini... thats good enough :D. thank you for the great deck!

Shoshalla 1

loving this deck. way more stabilization and turn around potential that i would have thought.

Im thinking about switching "Attainted" for "Winter is Coming"

what yall think about that??

Shoshalla 1

Also lol, Harrenhall is unbelievable! I never thought it would be too valuable of a card. I played it setup against a Targ Fealty deck, the game went like 10-11 plots, and he was so afraid to do anything.

Finally he played Strong Belwas bestowed with one gold, then played Khal Drogo, and I didnt use it! He had to valar next turn!!!!! I lost my shit.

I finally used it on Dany way late. Loving Harrenhall
