Swiss score was 6-2, just enough to make the cut.

In swiss I lost to Lanni Rains, similar to mine. That was almost a "who gets Tywin first" kinda game.

I also lost to Targ Fealty. Mostly because I couldn't fully controll the board due to Astapor.

Top 32 report:

=================

  1. Michał Lewiński (Targ Fealty) - TOP 32

Michał is actually the guy who invited me to Fracas :D I was lucky to get my Harren-Tower combo, while he just couldn't draw Astapor and didn't get any dupes to save Daenerys Targaryen from Valar. So even though I did a major misplay by forgetting that I had The Hand's Judgment when he played Dracarys! I was able to trigger my combo enough to control the board. Michał was super nice and always stayed in a great mood!

  1. Łukasz (Tyrell Rains) - TOP 16

I got my Tower-Hall combo, while Lukasz got The Arbor and then Margaery Tyrell (AMAF) pretty quickly. He used some great cards for Marge-synergy like "The Last of the Giants" and Wildfire Assault to flood the board with 7-cost Lords and Kings. Luckily for me he didn't have saves on any of them, so I managed to Valar Morghulis his Renly Baratheon (FFH) and Mance Rayder to make sure I had the superiority. Margaery Tyrell (AMAF) was duped however, so he got Randyll Tarly after Valar. I had Tywin Lannister (Core) in hand so I was ready to bounce his 6-costers back to hand and control the board. Both Tower of the Hand and Harrenhal (FFH) were duped so I didn't worry about Political Disaster. He did play Political Disaster so I unduped my combo to save more economy. Next thing he does - Lay Siege. Then Lukasz marshalled Renly's Pavilion, his Randyll Tarly was duped, had Heartsbane and ready to farm that power. At that point I wasn't as confident in my board control capabilities, as my board was way weaker and I only had half of my combo left. However when he played his Valar Morghulis which unduped Randyll Tarly who already had 3-4 power on him I managed to marshal Tywin Lannister (Core) on an empty board, won , bounced Tywin Lannister (Core) back to hand as well as his chud and used "The Rains of Castamere" to flip Varys's Riddle. His board was clear, best characters dead, I had more power, time was running out, so the game ended pretty quickly. Łukasz did a great job and I'm still surprised that I managed to stop him, great game!

  1. Tupaq (GJ Rains) - TOP 8

This set up was the luckiest thing I saw all day. Duped Harrenhal (FFH), Tower of the Hand, Western Fiefdom. AND while drawing back to 7 cards I drew another Tower of the Hand, nothing feels better than duping your key locations vs GJ ! His setup was Victarion Greyjoy with Appointed and a Iron Islands Fishmonger. So i played Valar Morghulis turn 1, because that Victarion would never die later and his could have been a problem in this MU. I had a The Hand's Judgment in case he used Risen from the Sea. He made me go first in round 1, which was very important, because I could save a gold for my cancels. That gold allowed me to Treachery his Newly-Made Lord and i wasn't afraid of We Do Not Sow. After that I proceeded to use my annoying combo and control the board. However it wasn't easy! He managed to get Balon Greyjoy (CtA) out and won plenty of and . Tupaq had a lot of answers for my shenanigans, and saved Balon from Tears of Lys with Risen from the Sea. Even afterI managed to March Balon Greyjoy (CtA) next turn he somehow came back! But my combo did it's thing and I was able to bounce-kill-march enough to empty his board and farm UO power.

  1. Kamil (Lanni Rains) [BEST OF THREE: 2-0] - TOP 4

First game was very close even though I had My Tower-Hall combo and he didn't. The main problem for me was that he had a combo of Ser Gregor Clegane and The Hand's Solar which made it really hard o win challanges. It took plenty of shenanigans like using Varys's Riddle on his Marched to the Wall to finally get rid of his board, but it happened eventually.

Second game was easier to win as I was lucky to get my combo again and from the first game I already knew he did not run Valar Morghulis! So I could marshal an unduped Tywin Lannister (Core) and I managed to keep the control of the board.

The thing is that Kamil's deck is much more about killing, rather than shenanigans, and my jumpers are hard to kill, because they're not there when the kill happens :D That's why I managed to win this one.

  1. Tamás Albeck (NW Fealty) [BEST OF THREE: 0-2] - FINAL TABLE

First game. Since I didn't get my combo I used Ghosts of Harrenhal to get a big board quickly with Ser Jaime Lannister (Core), Tywin Lannister (Core) and Tyrion Lannister (Core), I hoped that would help me breach The Wall. Then Tamás marshalled Craven, Craven and Milk of the Poppy and I realised that having a good board is not a good idea... It was a bit stressful, so I even forgot to trigger The Tickler once, which was probably my last hope :D On his side of the board there were small but very useful guys like Maester Aemon (Core), Shadow Tower Mason and Samwell Tarly (Core). Oh his Samwell Tarly (Core) is the worst thing I saw all day, as he had 2x Dragonglass Dagger and 2x Practice Blade, and a dup. With The Wall and Castle Black this guy had 10 STR in deffence for AND . That's hard to beat with a blanked and Cravened board :( I think I only won like 1 challenge. At some point I though that I could Valar away his small efficient guys, which I did. Once I managed to trigger "The Rains of Castamere" and used Varys's Riddle on his Building Orders to finally get that Tower of the Hand! However his Valar Morghulis killed what was left after my Valar Morghulis and my Tower-hall combo was useless with all of my key chars dead...

Second game. i could setup Ser Jaime Lannister (Core), Red Cloaks and Western Fiefdom, but I chose to mulligan and setup only The Roseroad and Tower of the Hand, which in my opinion was better than having any of the good chars on the board to get that Craven. Using my own Building Orders I was able to get my combo. Then I managed to win some challenges with jumping Tyrion Lannister (Core) and bounced away a dup of Halder. After that a lucky hit with The Tickler and Valar Morghulis all of his Shadow Tower Mason were dead / discarded, 2xCraven discarded, 1x Craven still on my Ser Jaime Lannister (Core), Halder dead, Dolorous Edd dead. Maester Aemon (Core) followed to the dead pile fairly quickly. At this point it seemed that the game was mine, I guess that's partly the reason major mistakes followed. He used his own Varys's Riddle to copy my Close Call and save Halder. The next card he drew was a 3rd copy of Halder! (So I've been told by spectators later) I wasn't worried though as could still jump that Tyrion Lannister (Core) and bounce anything he had. Then this happened: he had a Messenger Raven and Halder, I had Ser Jaime Lannister (Core) with a Bodyguard and Craven, Ser Kevan Lannister and a Lannisport Merchant. he had 11 power, I had 7 or so. Still seemed that this game is mine. I did with the jumping Tyrion Lannister (Core). No UO because The Haunted Forest, so The Wall still standing. used Tower of the Hand to bounce the Messenger Raven. Why not Halder? because I wanted to kill him with the Burned Men that I ambushed for the remaining 2 gold. Then I would do a challenge on an empty board, good plan right? However Practice Blade is a thing, and I just didn't look at how much gold he had (it was 4, so Arry was also a possibility). Ofc he ambushed Practice Blade on halder and defended both and with the help of Castle Black. The Wall triggered, he's at 13 power. It's okay, I'm still in control - is what I thought untill he revealed his next plot - Heads on Spikes. My hand was 6 cards and only 2 non-character cards. I revealed Marched to the Wall that turn and ofc I should have March my own Ser Jaime Lannister (Core) to get his Bodyguard back to hand just to lower the odds of a character pull, but I didn't. The Hound was pulled, gg.

Ofc even if I won the 2nd game, Tamás would probably win the 3rd, as NW Wall decks are the worst MU for my deck. Especially with such a legendary pilot!

It was great fun and I'm happy that I got this far.

Congrats again Tamás, and good luck at the Worlds!

Here's the description of my deck if you're interested.

Main Combo:

Tower of the Hand + Harrenhal (FFH) / Hear Me Roar! / INBAMF

For that reason Building Orders

Lay Siege, Nightmares, Nymeria Sand, Offer of a Peach and other Tower stoppers are dealt with by The Hand's Judgment and Treachery

However if the Tower is prevented, there's always Ghosts of Harrenhal to get that dead Tywin Lannister (Core) back on the board - that's even better than triggering Tower of the Hand

Also if your key locations get discarded to claim or to reserve, then Ser Kevan Lannister might be very useful.

Another use for Building Orders is to fetch a Bodyguard, to prepare for Valar Morghulis

At the same time prepare your opponent for Valar Morghulis by pealing off his dupes and bodyguards using Tears of Lys, Tower of the Hand and Confiscation

(Unless you need Confiscation to remove that milk from a duped Tywin Lannister (Core))

(Don't touch that Confiscation in a Stark match up! Keep it reserved for that pesky Frozen Solid)

With Harrenhal (FFH) and Tower of the Hand your Strength is in your hand, so Valar Morghulis and Marched to the Wall don't hurt you as much, even if it kills your board.

(Close Call is always there to resurrect those Valar-victims, copies of which happen to be in your hand)

At the same time "The Rains of Castamere" offers a lot of control if you are able to win challanges.

If you have Tyrion Lannister (Core) it's very easy to trigger Wardens of the West which can really help to limit your opponents options in his hand.

Varys's Riddle is good to copy those Counting Coppers and Confiscation. In some cases it can be devastating to copy a Marched to the Wall or Valar Morghulis

Other plots in the Scheme pile are either to stop your opponent from attacking or to stand a key character like Tywin Lannister (Core) to get that extra renown needed to close the game.

Btw Wardens of the West can also provide that last power if you have Cersei Lannister (LoCR) out.

I know lots of Rains use Wildfire Assault, but I don't think I need it with all the character removal that I have and Valar Morghulis in my plot deck. Tbh I'd rather add Forgotten Plans to the scheme pile if I found some space.

I know I know, I Never Bet Against My Family kneels the faction card, thus blocking "The Rains of Castamere". However most of the time your opponent will be trying to prevent you from using "The Rains of Castamere" thus there will be turns when you cannot trigger your Agenda, so I Never Bet Against My Family is a really nice back-up in this case.

it's really satisfying to use Tower of the Hand to take Tywin Lannister (Core) back to your hand when he was just INBAMF'ed. Or you can get lucky and get The Hound from INBAMF, again he jumps back in your hand. Or even an emergency claim on a lost turn is very helpful.

I find I Never Bet Against My Family better than Hear Me Roar! because it's free and it can give extra cards.

Hear Me Roar! is also good though, as it is an unexpected Harrenhal (FFH) effect which is great for The Hound or Tower of the Hand

I'd love to squeeze other great cards in this deck such as The First Snow of Winter, Casterly Rock, Nightmares, The Things I Do For Love, Paid Off or maybe Lannisport, but still unsure what to cut..

Feel free to suggest your ideas!

In the top 4 game, which Lannister dude did you have out to play Treachery on his Newly Made Lord?

ststripper 152

@America Good point, you do need a unique guy for Treachery. Honestly I can't remember. But it was either a small 2-3 cost guy, or that was the turn when he played Trading with the Pentoshi so i had more options. Also tbh that situation could have been turn 2 ;D
