This deck is a state-of-the-art Shadow deck. He needs more Shadows cards, but it could serve as a good basis for future Shadow decks.
He is originally adapter from a Tyrell-Lion deck built by Cyrano. I chosed to develop the concept in Martell because of the following characteristics of Tyrell - Lion :
- Poor draw (Oldtown, which gives the opponent power to claim)
- Variable economy (Only limited cards, with variable economic efficiency)
- No influence on the opponent in pre-reset.
- Small Reserve
Martell - Lion correct these defaults :
- Excellent draw ( Mainly Dorne, occasionally Shadow City, which is also a Plan B)
- Flexible economy ( Summer Sea Port, more efficient limited locations (Dornish fiefdom))
- Influence opponent in pre-reset (Bastard Daughter, HVP, SCB), either to attack his hand or prevent unoposed.
- Reserve Bonus (Dorne, Summer Sea Port)
Strategy : Hold on until Turn 3, then close the game by post-reset aggro.
Drawback of Martell - Lion : You are less efficient to close the game. Your efficiency is transferred toward early game. Since most strategies have access to resources, you will never be fully able to aggro them in post-reset.
Flexible cards : Maester of Starfall, Marched to the Wall 2, Archibald, Gerris The first metagame Pillage of Euron, and renown of characters that will survive the reset. But they are expensive and needs some table around them, which is difficult pre-reset.
7th plot : Marched, Retaliation, You Win or You Die, Battle of Blackwater. Second Marched because the victory path is mainly fully reducing opponent's table and then win. it also allow to replay Shadow cards if you have a second copy. The deck is less efficient than Tyrell-Lion to win challenges. So Claim 2 is less efficient than in Tyrell-Lion. You Win or You Die fits Tyrell because they have poor draw. I like Blackwater, but it could be unuseful sometimes.
Archibald and Gerris are mediocre.
Yronwood Knight and Manwoody Guard have been tested : too expensive for what they provide.
I considered Venomous Blade. The problem is their expensiveness in an already expensive deck and the occasional lack of holders. They also need Water Gardens to have the necessary economy, cutting slots that will be used for other cards (while Water Gardens is not prefectly adapted to the behavior of the deck).
Starfall Spy will be welcome x3 in the list, obviously. They open the reflexion on Assault from the Shadows.

I needed a good laugh, thank you for this, it was perfect. ;) |
what about the new varys? starfall spy is able to bring him out of shadows without the ridiculuos cost. Underhanded methods? Which makes the starfall spy able to win those challenges, also possible with hotahs axe. And also why no pinch of powder or maybe even poisoned coin? The more shadowcards, the more benefits with shadow city |
New Varys will be fine with Desert Raider, and provide an additional character control that is needed. I don't know Underanded methods and cannot find him on the database. A Pinch of Power 's condition is too hard to meet. |
not with varys and hotahs axe. easy way to get an unopposed or with 5 or more int challenge (especially after you killed one of the characters with varys). I also like the combo with varys and desert raider underhand methods is a lanni attachment in daggers in the dark, with shadow cost (0) it gives a character +1 strength for each card in shadows. And Martell has a cheap way to get lots of cards in shadow with shadow city |
Space in the deck is limited for "superficial" and conditionally efficient cards. I think the idea is interesting but should be tested. Take notes that Shadow City is not necessary here T1, when you put most of your cards into shadow. |
Lion banner is needed for Catspaw and Robert Strong.
