Balon’s Fishing Charter, aka Margaery Is Only Sixteen Years Old, aka We Do Not Sow but We Appreciate Those Who Do, aka Dumber Than Victarion, aka The Bash Brothers, (Like From Mighty Ducks, Dude), aka We Named Our Bunny Rabbit Asha Greyjoy

This started as a deck I built for my girlfriend. She doesn’t like playing long games and can’t stand it when her characters are knelt, killed, or stripped of icons. She almost exclusively plays rushy Greyjoy decks. Her favorite 1.0 deck of all time was Greyjoy/Bara Conquest with holy crests we called—obviously— “Two Gods, One Cup.”

In 2.0, Greyjoy/Rose is the closest thing we have to a rush build, so I set up a blunt Randyll/Balon/Marg pile for her and let her go to town. After we played a few games, she started asking insightful questions like, “Why the f*&^ are these Black Wind’s Crew in here?”

“You need them for your cost curve and military icons,” I replied.

“They suck.”

So I took them out. From there I figured, what the hell, lets push my deckbuilding habits a bit. I dropped seven characters, doubled down on attachments, and focused on getting key combos pieces out with protection. It resulted in some interesting choices, I think:

-No Tyrell 1-cost chuds. With targeted kill everywhere, I’d rather draw something that directly protects Balon/Randyll/etc. like…

-3 Birds/3 Risens/2 Seals/2 Hand’s Judgment/1 Bodyguard. Because how do you kill a duped Balon with Little Bird when I have a Hand’s Judgment ready? It’s not easy! Also, you can set up attachments now! Wowww!

-Bear and the Maiden Fair. So much fun to play. Use it on yourself to help set up combos or on your opponent to screw their draw for a turn. It has done more good than the Tyrell chuds.

Anyway, it’s a pretty dumb deck. Have a look, give it a try!

I really love rush decks also. The deck looks good, but there is any reason not to play a single copy of Knight of the Flowers? its another renown character to rush power.

Yeah, I tried 1 copy of KoF, but I always wanted to play a different high-cost character when I drew him. Your Noble Cause/Kingsroad/Calling the Banners are probably going to be used on Balon, Randyll, or Euron before KoF. If the deck was more rush and less combo, I’d probably include him as a 1x.

This is a fantastic deck, I have won the last 4 melees with my group with this deck, facing just about every other kind of deck. Usually I start out strong, get attacked, then spring up from 8 power to 15+ and take the win. Do you have any suggestions on how to modify it with The Road to Winterfell chapter pack?

@fishyfears My latest version of this runs The Knight of Flowers instead of Randyll. He functions as nice way to force challenges through when Balon isn't firing. I'm not a huge fan of the Raiding Longships since they're only online a fraction of the time. I find it's better to put most of my eggs in the "make Balon big" basket. I am interested in trying a knighted Balon/Arbor Knight/Lady Sansa's Rose super-rush version...I'll let you know how it goes!
