Greyjoy Kings of Winter

Another one from the Norwegian Meta decks. This is very similar to Slovenia's World Cup deck which was slightly more aggressive than the other KoW decks - so kudos to them along with Harren's base build from Stahleck 2023. Usually my meta asks for a very specific style, and this is not an exception. It was asked for a deck which utilizes a card; "Botley Crew, and the opponents needed to have a terrible experience playing against it". :D

The core deck have gotten slightly worse when losing out on Asha Greyjoy (Km), so draw is an issue - tried to fix with Ranger's Cache

The deck is built for a newer player - but there's still some interactions which are hard to do for someone that's been in the game for just a short time, namely Nightflyer. But rest assured, the deck is absolutely competitive :)

For newer players, I'd swap 3x Nightflyer for 1 more copy of Sweetsleep and change Ravages of War back to Nothing Burns Like The Cold. Buuuut as this deck was meant to be most "annoyingly evil" - Nightflyer needed to stay :) Your hand is starting to empty; play Ranger's Cache to fill it up again :)

How to

So, the goal of the deck: have more stuff in play than your opponent, remove cards from play to achieve this.

So the core of the deck:

  • Kings of Winter gives your opponent 1 less gold if its not played a Summer plot (this agenda got no synergies with Ravages of War)

  • Botley Crew trigger it to remove one gold from opponent.

  • Ralf Kenning as long as there's a Winter plot, your opponent gets another gold (this card got no synergies with Ravages of War)

  • Balon Greyjoy (KotI) uses the opponent's discard pile. Remember; you can put in play locations like The Kingsroad from the opponent discard pile in Marshaling phase (just remember to use it in the same Marshaling phase as it get's shuffled back in after the phase is done).

  • Fishwhiskers, this card got a very good ability, especially with "The Bloody Cup", as most rounds this card will get you unopposed challenge.

  • Nightflyer: Seems to be the most tricky card to use for most newer players. Put it into shadow for 2 gold. Play it out to remove a location. This can be a 0 cost location as well (which makes the card cost 0 from shadows). This can be the final blow to the opponent, as if you got some of the choke already going with Winter stuff, another gold removed before the challenge phase can be huge. It can be good to play it already in draw phase :)

  • Unopposed cards: "The Bloody Cup" - slightly costly, but can be used to remove the big character which still are in play. We Do Not Sow - remove the locations which still are in play after Nightflyer. Cards that enables these Unopposed Events is your general choke + Fishwhiskers and Theon Greyjoy (SoS)
