Hey, this is the deck that allowed me to win this year's online World Championship. First of all, I have to say that this is not my own creation. If you look into the Team Germany World Cup List you'll see the same list as here. And on Team Germany we've got it from Jimalexandrou I think. I was always losing to him on theironthrone with this deck and then played it myself and WOW, its so strong.
I'm going to write something on the plotline and how you play it and a short recap of all my tournament games.
Your opener is mostly At the Gates, sometimes you can open For the Realm if you really want to get a big board by Turn 1 (didn't happen at online worlds). I even opened Here to Serve once against Targ SoB because I had 5 econs in my starting hand, also Gates of the Moon.
Your second plot is if you have something its usefull with For the Realm and if not mostly Here to Serve.
Counting Coppers is in to get some extra draw if your draw engine is't running and to get a tremendous amount of cards from The Watch Has Need.
Close Call is nice to play either after a key character died or you played Valar Morghulis. Also good to block Winter Festivals or just get a card.
Valar Morghulis is really good in this deck because you are able to get so many dupes and ofc Maester Aemon.
Duel is really good into Heavy Goodstuff Decks as Greyjoy or Stark Fealty, Tyrell Rains and Big Dragons. I didn't get to trigger it once in the whole tournament so after all, I'd maybe switch it to Bran the Builder or something, but I'm not sure.
In all you have really good draw withThe Watch Has Need, The Prince that was Promised, Great Ranging, Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, Old Tattersalt and Three-Finger Hobb.
You can get xour key characters quick and control the board with your characters, Craven, Milk of the Poppy, Castle Black, The Wall (Core) and Fist of the First Men.
Also you have in addition to Milk The Hand's Judgment and Lay Waste to get Location, Attachment and Event control.
Whats also really good in comparison with other Prince Decks is, that you don't stack power on your Prince. On Valar Doaheris for Exapmle you mostly want to get your Great Ranging away and keep something like Maester Aemon (Core), Ser Jaremy Rykker, Three-Finger Hobb (R) and Steward at the Wall. Also Old Tattersalt is really good at getting your The Watch Has Need, Milk of the Poppy, Craven or Lay Waste. Especially when you have much econ with Blackbird which can also save him from Resets or First Snow.
Ser Waymar Royce is really good to throw in if you are going to play Valar Morghulis next turn but need some board and also to keep 10 Gold worth of Characters on Valar Dohaeris.
Its really good against the Targaryen Heavy Meta. Mercenaries is normally a 60 40 matchup and Dothraki 80 20.
I could write a lot more about some cards and special interactions but that would be too much. Recap:
Round 1 Ululuak - Baratheon Fealty
I managed to get board control quite fast and managed to oppose his Banished from Light in Turn 1. From that on the game was really slow with me having the bigger board. Once he played Valar Dohaeris I kept Aemon and a duped Jaremy and played VM the next turn. From there I could just warm the board, get my Wall and win the game.
Round 2 Thegars - Martell Assault
I had Wall in my setup which led me to get to 11 power by the end of Turn 3. He played Arianne, I instantly played Valar and then Craven onto his Viper. He had no more chance of breaking through and I secured my second win.
Round 3 Radek - Martell 321
I mulliganed for a Wall and got it. He wasn't really able to get my board early. In the end he managed to make it small, but not to prevent my Wall Triggers.
Round 4 Peter Shuck - Stark 321
Really not an easy game. He pressured from the beginning and I always had to defend his military challenges. Fist of the First Men really carried this game agaisnt Alysanne with Ice. He got to 11 Power or something before my board became to big and I managed to win.
Round 5 Alex Fdez - Targaryen BotT
My draw was really bad in this game. Forest Patrol and Steward at the Wall in setup and no econ until Turn 4, Watch has Need on 0 cards in Turn 1 (later again on 1 card) and he wiped off my board in Turn 1 with Daario, Marched and Mil Claim. I slowly rebuild my board, but he was going too fast on Power. Once I had board control he was on 14 Power and got to 15 with Unbridled on Shagwell and Iron Emmett.
Round 6 Aljosha - Stark Fealty
Throne in Setup was really hard for me. Also he had a really good start, wiping my board with Alysanne, Ice, Winter is coming and Arya. I tried to play VM and he played a really smart marched (on Arya) which led him to keep Alysanne and Jason Mallister. I even got Lay Waste onto his Throne the next turn but it was too late.
Top 16 Tassos - Targaryen 321
Again I mulliganed for a Wall and got it in my setup. I got to 11 power by Turn 3. He got to make me lose almost my whole board in the end but I got the Wall trigger off and closed.
Top 8 SirDuck - Targaryen Sea of Blood
I made a really bad mistake in Turn 1 where I passed my action window for Forest Patrol. Then I couldn't do a challenge with Iron Emmet to prevent Overwhelming. He got Claim 3 this round and got another Ovwerwhelming in Turn 2 for Claim 4. He was in a big Lead but I managed to get GR with Castle Black and some Dupes and played VM. Also because of Wall I made a lof of Power in this turn and took the lead. Then he played his own Valar and I swarmed the board to secure the win.
Top 4 Tom MacKenzie - Targaryen Sea of Blood
Same Matchup, way better start. I opened Here to Serve because I had 5 econ cards in hand and opposed this military on that turn. On his MKC I marshalled Great Ranging and had Castle Black on the board. He didnt even win a single military challenge in that whole game. After double VM in Turn 7 I finally closed.
Final Aljosha (again :) ) Stark Fealty
I had Wall and Castle Black but no characters in my setup. After he played Ice in Turn 1 I decided to marshall no characters. Then I messed up my Milk in Northern Patriarch and played Watch has Need before. Luckily, I had a second one :D. Next turn I played Valar Morghulis. In the next turn I played for the realm and got my Great Ranging and Jaremy Rykker into play. Meera was really annoying and kind of blocked my Wall triggers but my board was getting too big. He couldn't prevent Wall Triggers Power Challenges at some point and I won the game.
Amazing run, it is a high skill deck, then it really shines. you showed them! FFM to rule the Meta!
