This is the deck I won our 10 player Draft event in Munich with (https://thrones.tourneygrounds.com/tournaments/8974/scores). It went undefeated in the 3 games we played.
The deck itself is nothing too fancy, basically just a very solid collection of Knight characters. ToJ has some amazing Kniggets in the pool. Maybe not super sophisticated, but very effective.
During the first draft round (first pack) I was just aiming for good cards with no specific faction or agenda in mind, as probably most people do. When looking through the drafted cards after the first pack was done, I realized that I already had a stock of decent knights from different factions. But as I also had Melisandre (ToJ) as a first pick, I was not quite decided yet. After the second pack, the Knights theme was set in stone, but for the faction I still was kind of undecided between Lannister and Stark and the decision did not seem that important at that time. After the 3 pack I decided to go for Lannister finally.
The deck profits strongly from the big renown bodies, such as Ser Barristan Selmy (ToJ), Beric Dondarrion (ToJ), Ser Arys Oakheart (ToJ), Ser Jaime Lannister (ToJ) and Ser Harry Strickland (ToJ). Especially Ser Harry Strickland (ToJ) is only in there for the renown, but its also good to not let him pass to someone's Mercenary deck. Ser Barristan Selmy (ToJ) is just insane with that amount of Kniggets, especially when Ser Addam Marbrand (ToJ) can help mitigate the cost. Ser Jaime Lannister (ToJ) can singlehandedly shut down Shadow or Jumper decks. Beric Dondarrion (ToJ) did not really have an opportunity to shine in my 3 games and Ser Arys Oakheart (ToJ) also mostly contributed his renown.
Other good supporting Knights are of course Ser Bryce Caron (ToJ) for the STR boost and Bonifer the Good (ToJ) for draw as well as Ser Boros Blount (ToJ) obviously. I could not put The Knight (ToJ) to good use, as it was often competing with the renown guys, also Ser Gulian Qorgyle (ToJ), Ser Vardis Egen (ToJ), Ser Emmon Cuy (ToJ) and Cruel Brigand were mostly there to fill up the lower cost slots.
For the locations, Casterly Rock (ToJ) did not really do much apart from granting basically up to 3 extra gold per round. The Tower of Joy was pretty nice with the STR boost and the sporadic extra power gain. Lannisport (ToJ) is also pretty strong against anybody who doesnt have Assault 4+ at hand. And Silverhill River performed better than expected as well.
Burning Bright (ToJ) does not need to be explained.
Plotwise, especially Melisandre's Gambit stands out as its just insane value. I decided not to include The Pale Mare (ToJ) with all the 5+ cost renown guys and went for Biting Cold instead, as my cheap characters are not really important and in the case of Ser Boros Blount (ToJ)its even beneficial to get him back into the deck. It could be argued that The Tower of Joy profits a lot from The Pale Mare (ToJ), but I think it was still the right call. I ended up using Biting Cold as an opener in 2 out of 3 games and managed to clear the opponents character boards after setup with it. Its surprising how many people forget that this plot is part of the Draft starter / or maybe dont expect it to be played. Most other plots were only picked for the gold, but Burning the Books (WK) also provided a bit of utility in one game at least.
Cards I would remove in hindsight maybe are Septon Utt (ToJ) (I thought he might be cool together with the rock, but its just too much hassle), Casterly Rock (ToJ) is not really worth it here, and if you can find a better knight than Ser Harys Swyft (ToJ) in the same slot, go for him. Also not quite sure about Tywin Lannister (ToJ) here, but intimidate can always be quite nice, even if you wouldnt chose to go first, as it makes the decision for your opponent a bit harder.
I will not really go into details about the single matches, but the general gameplan is pretty simple: Flood the board with your knights, stack on renown power, plan ahead for the The Pale Mare (ToJ), and try to flood again. And thats also kind of how the 3 games went in the end :)
Thanks to everyone who joined us today in Munich and special thanks of course to Kayorga for bringing this awesome draft set to life!
See you all (at the Castle at latest)! Cheerio!
