Shift 56

More or less just another Greyjoy Fealty deck. It got 2nd place at a store championship in Livonia, MI. There were 25 players total, 5 rounds of swiss.

Breakdown of rounds:

1. Win vs Barakneel - this was actually unfortunate because the guy I played was a buddy who drove up with me on the day of the tournament. 20+ people and I get paired with the person I came with... This was a good match though, ended up in my favor.

2. Win vs Tyrell/Sun - this was a fairly standard match. I was fortunate enough to get a pretty good setup and was able to control the board early. Not much to say except that my opponent was a real chill dude.

3. Loss vs Greyjoy Fealty - okay so this match... ugh... We had pretty close starts, both got Balon turn 1 or 2 plus stealthers. Felt very even until I killed his Balon and he played Risen from the Sea. This was actually okay for me because I was holding 2x Risen from the Sea in hand so I was just going to do the same. Unfortunately, when I try to rise Balon he had Hand's Judgment. Afterward, I think I was starting to stabilize but he Hand's Judgments my second Risen from the Sea as well and it was all downhill from there. I cried a little inside... Well played game - pretty fun, very bloody. Just like Greyjoy likes it.

4. Win vs Greyjoy Fealty - This game was super fast. Standard Greyjoy on Greyjoy action. I got a Raiding Longship out early and it helped me to secure a victory.

5. Win vs. Targ/Rose - First off let me say that my opponent here was awesome. Super fun guy to play against, and was a really solid player. I had a pretty decent setup with an Asha and a Black Wind's Crew. Followed it up later with further BWCs, Balon, and Raiding Longship. As in game 4, Longship really helped me to start pulling ahead here. On turn three my opponent played Naval Superiority which would have completely turned the game around but on that turn I played A Clash of Kings and avoided losing my money. My opponent played Milk of the Poppy on Asha, I was able to march her to the wall and play another copy from my hand in the same turn. On a turn following that, I drew 2x Theon with one already in play which more or less nullified his military claim. I had some very fortunate draws and near misses in this game, which helped get me the win. Opponent was a pleasure to play against - very respectful and pretty much just a cool person.

Couple of key changes just prior to the tournament were the removal of Aeron, addition of a third Little Bird, removal of all Kingsroads, and addition of 2x Hand's Judgments.

You didn't miss the Kingsroads? This one seems so low on economy...

Shift 56

@jaypeedayleeI didn't miss Kingsroad at all. The econ in the plots is pretty high. Sneak Attack has been a solid opening plot so with the 5 gold and fealty, I can marshal any card in the deck except for Euron with no other econ cards on the board. A typical start would be 2 characters and 1-2 locations on the Board at setup and I saw Balon early in a lot of games so with an opening sneak attack I'd toss Balon in play using fealty - any other econ cards were bonus. This worked really well for me but I agree that on paper it looks gold starved.

Who needs Kingsroad when you can just steal your opponent's with Euron?

All fair points and forgot this was a Fealty for a sec. I'm putting together a GJ/Martell deck myself which has economy issues

Also, I'm I cannot confirm 100% that this wasn't just good tournament luck either. The removal of the Kingsroads were a very last minute decision so I could have simply been fortunate, haven't tested enough yet to know. Felt right though!
