Rochester regional top 4 - homebrew deck - lanni kraken | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.0 |
JoePerson 499
Undefeated King of Swiss at 41 person regional in Bristol UK. Bombed out of the cut at top 8 due to the stupidest play I've ever made. Will add a full report soon.

i like this deck and may use it soon. do you think milk is needed for mirri? iron mines is good of course, but you may not always have it. Also, if you had out tywin, chud, asha, theon to mirri, wildling scout, and chud, why didn't your opponent give mirri stealth on intrigue and intrigue stealthing tywin? could use mirri to kill tywin then, and chud for claimsoak |
I thought about Milk but it felt too slow. I would rather kill the problems. Also Treachery exists for most of the things you want to milk. The second question - he did give mirri stealth for intrigue, but Tyrion + Widow's Wail defended her |
hmm, i saw "aasah and tyrion" and thought "asah and theon" for some reason. if the wail is good, would a second be warranted? |

Hey, this is Joe Z. Was sorry to sit the king of the swiss curse struck again, you did wonders for my SoS! Waiting to see our recording as im pretty sure there was nothing I could've done differently to win that game (other than draw my own widows wail). but I learned that day that widows wail is a incredible pain in the ass for mirri, having the same trick lose all my momentum with her in my other loss. |

On the misplay; you had cards/gold and I was worried about dropping 2 claim for the Chair kill on Big Greg and getting Treachery'd. Bad call. Lead to bad times and ultimately cost me the game. Still, live and learn. |

WW is amazing - I'd take out a Rattleshirt for it. Other options are the Shipwright or Brothel Madame or indeed just going 61 cards. |

seeing stark come on strong (as well as bara decks) makes me want wildfire in addition to first snow - do you think its needed? i am considering the following cards to add in: third seal of the hand; second widows wail; second lordsport shipright. want to cut brothel madame, one of the fishmongers, and something else. How were tears - would the be better as milk/nightmares/things i do for love? what about trimming hands judgement or treachery? i think i like 3 of each |
I've given my thoughts on Milk/Nightmares in the deck already but YMMV. Things I Do could be a nice choice but the event slots are tight. Tears are great for the Stark and Bara matchups (which as you say are coming on strong), so I wouldn't want to drop any. It's only down to 2 because of the prevalence of Lannister and Martell at the moment, but even then there are targets. I wouldn't even consider cutting any cancel. Plus 1 Widow's Wail is the only change I would go for myself. Let me know how your tweaks perform, though. I by no means consider myself a master deckbuilder, so I'm sure there's room for improvement. |
Round 1 - Mr SC Bye (W)
Complete walkover.
Round 2 - Match W - Targ Fealty (W)
Match set up 4x 2-costers opposite my Mountain + chud + roseroad. I opened First Snow hoping to see Noble on the other side and win the initiative, but Match made a great call in flipping a Filthy to control the Mountain. The low gold meant he didnt end up getting anything to the table, so I kept 4 gold to ambush The Hound to be Marched to the Wall. In the next round Gregor pulled a Dany from the deck and my intrigue pulled a Crown of Gold. Tyrion, Asha and Gregor were soon looking at an empty board and sailed through for a quick win.
Round 3 - Joe Z - Targ Lion (W)
Down on the recording table so expecting this to be posted soon - I will probably realise I've mis-remembered most of this but it's close enough...
Joe set up a frightening Mirri + chud but I had Tywin + chud. In the first round Joe was first to marshal, bringing out a wildling scout to help Mirri. To protect Tywin I used my Noble Cause + Kingsroad to marshal Asha and Tyrion for Stealth options, and the Widow's Wail I (luckily) had in hand protected me from Mirri. I was unable to remove the duped Mirri but in the next round Joe left his board wide open for me to PTTS a dragon and feed Tears to Drogo. First Snow into Marched got me another empty board and another quick win.
Round 4 - Matt C - Greyjoy Crossing (W)
I was scared going in as Crossing decks can easily out-rush me before I've got a solid base built up on the board. I kept a subpar first hand to set up Rattleshirts, GMP and a roseroad (I should have mulliganed). I was soon enough looking at Balon, Asha and Seastone, with Iron Mines and Hand's Judgment apparently in infinite supply. Matt misplayed on a 2 claim turn, choosing regular claim for 2 chuds over target kill on the Mountain. Gregor got a few nice pulls to thin the board, and Matt overextended for challenges on his last turn to get to 14, thus leaving me open to close out with an unopposed power challenge with Theon.
Round 5 - Tagore - Stark Fealty (W)
Gregor runs wild. PTTS on Robb and then pillage Jory to kill Catelyn both in the same challenge. It took me a bit longer than usual to kill through his wall of characters but I was eventually looking at an empty board again with Tywin, Gregor and Tyrion on-side.
Top 8 - James H - Martell Rose
The one I won't forget. The going was certainly tough, with 3 House Florent Knights pulling Theon and Tyrion, and then I think Theon again (yes, really.) I had to play slow but built up a good lead with Tywin starting to get some renown and just winning power challenges. But, the long day (and long month) had taken it's toll, and I walked Tywin straight into a Ghaston Grey which I wasn't expecting to be there. The game wasn't over but it was a slight tempo hit to say the least. Time was called and I managed to claw back to tie, but I couldn't hold on for another round with James's superior board position. James went on to win (with a very interesting deck - Arianne tricks galore!). It is a shame I gave up my lead as I was looking at putting down a Mountain next turn and god only knows how many 5-cost he could have pulled!
A great day had regardless, and I am still extremely happy to have done so well at my first regional. Massive thanks to Liam Hall for organising the event and arranging a bunch of extra prizes.
In terms of deck tweaks - I honestly can't think of any. The deck functioned very well all day, even if its pilot didn't. I obviously do welcome comments though as I'm always looking to improve and to take on new ideas and inspiration!
