So this is my first attempt at building my own deck from scratch, I've only been playing for about 2 1/2 weeks so I'm sure this deck needs adjustment! The deck gets it's name from a line in Brokeback Mountain where their boss tells Jack and Ennis that he's not paying them to "stem the rose" . I feel clever. ;-)

Anywho! I set out to make a Tyrell/Baratheon deck centered around The Knight of Flowers and Renly Baratheon. When looking at the interaction between these two houses, I saw that Knights and Ladies appeared to be the implied theme so I picked out the best Knights and Ladies and the cards that benefited from their interaction.

Things I noticed in play testing:

  • Ser Davos Seaworth is awesome. He's a Knight, with Stealth, and instead of dying he returns to my hand when killed. If for some reason you do lose a military challenge, you just pick him back up. I've also used him as an easy Wildfire Assault sacrifice to prevent other Unique's from going into the Dead Pile.

  • The Queen of Thorns is a terror when she gets going. One game she cheated Loras, Randyll, Horas and Paxter onto the board.

  • It's a bit slower than I would like (mostly when I take too long to get Olenna out), I've been able to close games a lot faster with some Net Decks I've tried out from here (like the Greyjoy Fealty). Suggestions for speeding it up?

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your insight!

Not that I have much more experience than you, but I've been playing a similar deck with a few minor differences.

1: I dropped Paxter early on due to low event cost. I do not play put to the sword in my build, which he definitely helps with, but for growing strong and rose, I found that I often ended up with more gold than I knew what to do with in almost every game. I Rarely needed his reduction and His monocon usually got stripped so he tended to be useless (lots of martell in my meta)

2: Instead of playing lower impact knights like Vanguard Lancer (And although you aren't playing it I have to mention Arbor Knight), I am playing Melisendre and Fiery Followers instead, which not only complement with the kneel package, but also give you more intrigue and a good bounce-back on first snow of winter turns, because being able to play fiery followers again is very good w/ Mel out.

3: Even with the differences between mine and yours, (mine features 14 or so intrigue icons) this deck is going to struggle with intrigue. I am not playing tears for this reason, and instead play Seen in Flames to control what they can play. It also helps kneel with melisandre.

I doubt you were looking for that much info, but I figured I'd throw in my input after playing a similar deck. I would focus more on power, maybe even play winds of winter to have more claim. Econ can be rough in my build and even yours, so focus on getting the arbor and hope your greyjoy opponent isn't playing we do not sow :P
