superleague 8
This deck is an enhancement of the previous popular Night's Watch Kings of Winter. With the release of Lions of Casterly Rock we finally solve the economy problem with the Ocean Road.
The idea is pretty much the same: choke the economy of the enemy and flood the board with cheap cards that you don't mind to lose. Don't fear to lose challenges in the first few rounds. We can trigger either Young Spearwife's stealth and the future attachment King Beyond the Wall.
Setup: It's better to have either the God's Eye or the White Tree in the setup. These two cards are non-limited and extra copies of the God's Eye can feed the ability of Old Forest Hunter. Ocean Road is great for marshaling the cheap wildlings.
Key Characters Play: Play Varys as long as you have him in hand. He's a great threat to the enemy and no doubt they will try their best to either cancel his effect or have him killed. I put the Hand's Judgement here, although very few people use it now, to counter possible cancellation cards like Treachery or Nightmare. Even if he dies we can still rely on Mance.
Placing Mance early out is also not a bad idea. Opponents who know your deck may feel relieved because they see Mance and think that you are not going to play Varys against yourself. That's the time for him to be a great bait. Otherwise, with 6 winter plots, we can easily save money until the challenge phase and ambush the wildlings at a lower cost. No doubt Mance is a great combo for The First Snow and Marched to the Wall.
Later game: Try to choke the economy of your opponent with Famine and The First Snow. Don't fear to lose challenges in early rounds. Only after the board wipe we can show the power of cheap cards.
Plots: Don't worry too much about the reserve since we have Sam, Northern Rookery and the God's Eye. Start with Wraith in Their Midst and follow up with a Early Frost. Two Winter Festivals provide a good amount of gold and two powers(hopefully) to allow us catch up with losses in early rounds. Notice that the claim value for Early Frost and Famine is two, so we can always have a huge come back.
Future: This deck has potential with future wildling cards like Northern Refugee and The King Beyond the Wall, even Torment, who will certainly appear in future packs.
Good Luck and Have Fun with the Deck!
