Even though I was eliminated in the first round of the final 4, I was very pleased with my performance with this Greyjoy Deck, 2nd overall in Swiss.
This was my first time playing Greyjoy competitively; thus, I feel with a bit more practice, I can bring home the gold next time (I made some rookie GJ errors--as I will mention below).
I wanted to make a deck that was in the right time and place for the Valar meta, and it worked great. Every game, except for one, I was able to turn 2 Valar, save my characters via Risen From The Sea/Iron Mines, and have their board completely wiped. Add in The Seastone Chair, and that 0 claim Valar turns into another kill for total board control. Additionally, the Kings of Summer gave me the gold I needed in my critical turns; helping GJ with dire econ. Usually after every Valar turn, I played Summer Harvest which nearly always gave me massive gold to keep the board under my control.
Game 1 vs. Martell/Featly - Win (Turn 2 Valar)
Game 2 vs. Tyrell/Kings of Winter - Win (Turn 2 Valar)
Game 3 vs. Lanni/Rains - Loss - Very close game, my first rookie GJ mistake came from me not realizing I could have removed his Milk of the Poppy from my Asha with We Do Not Sow, and I won an unopposed that turn. He was playing Valar as well and he "Valar'd" first (Turn 2)--I Valar'd turn 4. I recovered fine and had Balon, then Close Called Asha back in, had The Seastone Chair, and Little Finger with 10 power on my faction, but the Rains/Tears of Lys were my bain and I could not pull off the win.
Game 4 vs. Tyrell/Rains - Win (Turn 2 Valar)
Final 4
Game 5 vs. Bara/Rains - Loss - My second GJ rookie mistake was not realizing I could have used We Do Not Sow to remove the Bodyguard from Melisandre--in which I delayed a turn from playing Valar and he accumulated too much power, had too many of my characters knelt and I was locked down. But hey, I lost to the guy who won the championship! Check out his deck, like, right now--it's over on the Bara Side, "Kneel Before The Lord of Light," by cligato7 -- give him some 'gratz.
All-in-all, a really great day and fun time. Next time, if I still decide to go with GJ, I will be more prepared.
Nice deck and thanks for the report. Interesting to see if greyjoy will be a top contender in this meta.
