Top 4 out of 18 players

3W-1L Swiss Rounds

Round 1: Martell Stag (W)
Round 2: Tyrell Crossing (L)
Round 3: Night's Watch Fealty (W)
Round 4: Lannister Rains (W)

Top 4: vs Targaryen Crossing (L)

  • he gave me the win because he won't be able to play in the Top 2

Top 2: vs Tyrell Crossing (L)

  • can't beat the rush with the renown characters on top of 2 Winter Festivals, was close one though (14-15)

VIP of the deck:

  • Roose Bolton (who killed 4 characters on top of claim - NW match / 6STR on 3rd challenge)
  • Osha - who is always reliable to do 2 of the 3 challenges

Found useful: House Manderly Knight - for the added STR on winter plots

Strategy: Do all 3 challenges as much as possible, win the 3rd challenge with Roose with 6 STR minimum Be more aggro with Ice and Greywind, March the few remaining characters

Wolves of the North helps with reducing STR to help kill with Roose (for big characters), more kill with Like Warm Rain

Keep opponent's characters down to a minimum (2-3 ideally)

I am also known in our meta to play janky decks, so you will notice some cards that aren't usually being played. :D

What do change for the future: to make it more consistent remove the direwolf cards altogether except for summer, then change like warm rain to put to the torch or nightmares (for control) or winter is coming (rush or aggro) plot to change one of the plots to 1more of Marched (for more aggro) or Winter Festival (for more rush)

Isn't it not too expansive to pump roose to a strange of 6? If you play Lady on him you lose the attachement and with ice he is a chrakter for 9 gold? I also think treachery could be pain in the ass if your plan will be stopped and you don't have Bran or HJ. But maybe it works. I never tried it :-) Concratulations to Top 4!

2 times Winter Festival could be dangerous against a Summer Deck.

So I forgot that roose will get plus 2 strg in the 3rd challenge :-) but in that case, he isn't a tempo hit?

@King NothingFor Roose STR pump, just include him on the third challenge, no need to pump him using Ice or Lady, I only use Lady for Sansa to maximize her on challenges (do a challenge then move Lady to her to stand and pump her STR) and Ice for added kills if needed.

As for treachery, in my match-ups if you've noticed, I only went against one lannister (I played no one who bannered lion, lucky me). In such cases, I always watch out for the gold left, if there are any unique Lanni character out and/or if Tyrion is out. Otherwise, aside from HJ and Bran there's Winterfell and Catelyn to help out.

I do agree with 2x Winter Festival to be risky especially with summer decks, that is why another alternative is to play Marched x2 to be more aggro instead. If your meta doesn't play Summer decks, then 2x winter festival would be great. It would easily make your game rushy and they would definitely would not expect the 2nd copy. Another alternative would be to play another 2 claim winter plot.

For the tempo hit, usually I get Roose on setup (I play 3x so that the odds are with me), if not I play Pentoshi or a kings road (if I have) to be able to marshall more characters (if I do get him on drawback after setup).

Thank you for your feedback :D

Have you considered Needle in this deck? Then you would have him up to 7 STR and could play Roose Bolton back on the table the next turn after sacrificing him on the 3rd crossing challenge?

DrNovak 1

edit: with Needle on Roose Bolton he would have 8 STR one the 3rd crossing challenge :)

@DrNovak, I did consider it. But due to deck size, I didn't have space for it. Maybe replacing it with the cards i mentioned earlier (dire wolves, etc) could work but then again, economy to marshall Roose it quite expensive and against high INT STR decks, it won't stay long in my hand anyways.
