Why no corsair's dirk , special for Balon? You aren't forced the get first like for your iron fleet scouts and you can steel the gold for opponents events. Or blessing to save against burn? If you tech against Targ then you need HJ so much

@King Nothing

The Dirk is alright. I kinda like having zero attachments so opposing attachment removal is worthless, but I'll admit the +2 strength is useful especially against burn, so maybe I'll try one copy.

Nightmares could become Hand's Judgment.

I'm curious as to why no Raiding Longship or Esgred, and just 1 Rattleshirt. Not running 3 of the new Theon seems criminal for a GJ Crossing deck as well. Interestingly, you run a number of intrigue techs such as Mance and Ygritte.

In additon, you run a lot of UO support (e.g. Great Kraken, We Do Not Sow, Asha, Seastone Chair), but outside of Balon, Theon and Rattleshirt, you don't see to have too many ways of getting UO challenges.

I'm a relatively new player who is interested in running a GJ Crossing deck with the new possibilities offered by the new Theon. Would you mind explaining your thought process when building the deck?

@KhosroTheGreatI considered Raiding Lonships but I'm not really committed to going first, so Pyke seemed like a better fit. Keep in mind that this is a very early draft so that's subject to change.

Rattleshirt is good, but I already have 3 Balon and 2 Victarion. There's only room for so many 6 cost mil/pow characters.

I have 2 Theon because he's very susceptible to Plaza of Punishment or Blood of the Dragon + Dany, etc, and I don't want 3 copies because then it's likely that I'll draw a dead character. If he ends up being amazing, maybe I'll risk a 3rd copy anyways.

Unopposed challenges happen naturally all the time. Especially considering that this deck wants to Valar on turn 2 or 3 probably to keep the board small.

After playing with the deck a little, for the most part, I have to agree with you. The one card which hardly ever seems to be useful is Ygritte, which is essentially a 4 cost 3 str vanilla most of the time and one which you can't use Risen or Iron Fleet Scout on, to make things worse.

Aeron, Black Walder and, in particular, Wex Pyke don't seem to do all that much work, but I can see that they can be very useful in certain situations.

The one thing that I think this would appreciate is a bit of attachment removal. A milked or craven'd Rattleshirt, Balon or Victarion is just really annoying. Although you can get strong cards in to replace the milked card with a bit of luck and good play, it forces you to make a decision about whether or not you want to save your big guy despite the milk/craven on him.

@KhosroTheGreathere's an updated list: thronesdb.com

Don't forget We do not sow is attachment removal as well.

KhosroTheGreat 31

@scantrell24 Thanks for showing me your updated list. Although I support the removal of Ygritte, Mance and Jaquen, I would be quite upset about losing Nightmares in particular. How are the attachments working out for you, and what was your thinking in removing the Great Kraken (a card I'm not sure of either way)?

KhosroTheGreat 31

@scantrell24 Also, as I feel Heads on Spikes does a lot of work by reducing the opponent's hand in preparation for Valar, as well as for passive power gain, what do you think of replacing either Counting Coppers or Time of Plenty in the new list with Heads on Spikes?

scantrell24 3392

@KhosroTheGreatYeah Nightmares and/or Hand's Judgment will probably end up in the final list, but I want to try Bless Him With Salt since I have Shadowblack Lane, and it's a strength buff to help against Targ.

The attachments have been okay so far, nothing great, but they're decent for setup and help win challenges here and there.

Great Kraken was tough to part with, but I would generally rather spend that gold on characters to ensure enough bodies for 3 challenges for Crossing.

As for Heads on Spikes, I'm not a fan of the card in general, it's just not consistent enough. I usually open with Time of Plenty, and Counting Coppers is important to refill on characters in the mid-game after Valar.

Thanks for the questions and let me know if you keep testing the deck!

So I guess UO challenges are not the main theme in this deck(or I am wrong) you really need the UO only for wdns. So have you ever tried King Balon? No kneel in a crossing deck sounds very good for me. I will give him a chance in my crossing build.

scantrell24 3392

@King NothingUO is nice for the extra power, but the focus of the deck is more geared towards grabbing the extra power from crossing and winning challenges. King Balon is a good thought, worth trying
