Fun little deck that went 3-1 at our monthly tournament last night with its only loss being 15-14 to another Martell deck of all things, so don't look now but Martell might be on the rise.
The idea is pretty simple, you want to stall in the early game limiting the opponents power as much as possible and keeping your hand high while destroying their hand before resetting with Vary's/Valar and then bringing the game home with unopposed challenges and renown on Knights of the Sun. There should be enough 4's/5's in the deck so you don't get absolutely ruined by First Snow.
In the game I lost I let the opponent get too high on power before I reset and then he dropped a Boneway which if triggered would give him the win so I couldn't push enough challenges to win myself without letting him win.
The set ups in this deck are always strong because of the high number of 2's so feel free to mulligan average set ups away to go for something awesome. Ideally you want some locations like ghaston/throne so you can set up less bodies and then reset quickly without losing a lot of resources. If you don't have a Roseroad/Fiefdom/Ocean Road on set up I almost always mulligan for one.
Most of the time you are opening with Riddle to get initiative and go second (and because Summer Harvest is still a common opener) and if they overextend you can turn 1 Varys if you managed to get an extra gold from either set up Roseroad or Fiefdom, or drew into your Ocean Road. The 1 of Ocean road is there just to give that opening a slightly higher percentage.
Retalliation is usually played post-reset to put a lot of pressure on them.
Summer Agenda seems weird but you can't play fealty because of all the neutrals and it allows you to hardcast Vary's off of Calm Over Westeros in case you don't draw a limited that allows you to play Varys. The higher reserve is also really big on Retalliation/Valar turns to keep your hand at a decent size.
Against Lanni be wary of Vary's if they have a money left and you don't have HJ for their Treachery. Other factions could also Nightmares him if they have a gold but most of the time that is fine since you can just use him the next turn.
