This is a very straightforward board dominance deck.
I often open with Counting Coppers to mill for Iron Mines / Risen from the Sea and Dupes for Asha Greyjoy which is clearly the star of this deck. There is almost nothing you can't destroy on the board with this deck if you have the patience, there is a big amount of location hate pretty much everywhere:
We Do Not Sow Newly-Made Lord Lordsport Shipwright Euron Crow's Eye (somewhat) Dagmer Cleftjaw
The characterdensity is not that high for a reason: at some point you should have a stronger economy going from all the locations and your opponents lack thereof, and having Dagmer and Euron running together is always nice. Often your chars will be just hit by Craven by the NW and just sit around not doing a whole lot, that's why i decided to thin out a little more the characters instead of just collecting dupes, which seems counterintuitive but works if played smart.
Use the dupes to save the characters out from Varys, iron mines and risen from your own and an oponents Valar Morghulis. The rest like Aeron Damphair (Core) is usual Grejoy shenanigans, don't depend on it it's just a nice bonus if it happens, if the stars align you have an The Iron Throne to help you establish dominance.
I often hold back Confiscation to clear Asha of anything nasty. Dont waste it on clearing one of your weak chars.

In Regards to the missing intrigue icons, well spotted that's a problem which is solved by fielding the intrigue heavy hitters like Euron / Littlefinger and the Reader, if you play it smart you can go second as Euron also triggers his pillage / renown in defending. The problem is, it can be that you are going to lose eventually the last giant or Varys before the dominance phase ends, but i also feel that this deck in particular is less dependent on it. In the Plot choice lie the answers. A Clash of Kings is an almost guaranteed Initiative Winner if you need it, the rest is pretty straight forward. You will not hold your own against lannister decks when it comes to intrigue but i feel like because of the massive Locationhate it's manageable most times. The schtick of this deck is to establish a very strong boardpresence that is almost impossible to remove, even after a double reset with varys / valar, it's very straight forward in what it does. That's what makes it a good Tournament deck, there's not alot of mistakes you can make. Variations: Remove Asha and put in Esgred for another intrigueicon, in my opinion not a good idea normally though especially since she works so well with clash of Kings. Remove King Balon's Solar and add another Lordsport Shipwright. The Solar is very nice when it comes up in the Setup, otherwise it's meh at best, but it's not limited which is nice. |
What about Victarion Greyjoy(another good bomb and target for cravens) and Great Kraken (good in small boards)? |
Victarion Greyjoy is great and he normally lands in every deck i have, maybe would even work in here because of his inherent powersave. I opted for Dagmer Cleftjaw because of the more direct Locationhate he presents to suppress better. Definitely wouldn't be a mistake to include him, but you want to be carefull not to include to many 6+ cost chars in there, as you want to be flexible to rebuild the board quickly after a reset. (Hence balon and euron only twice in there) |

Take my like :D I have a friend who has tried the GJ version as well, but we felt like it still lacks a few intrigue icons to be completely viable... what do you think? Also, Martell has the key advantage in His Viper's Eyes. Stilla very interesting build, keep it up!
