Hmmm .. this deck looks like a aggro/midrange deck, correct me if im wrong

jaypeedaylee 36

Similar to Sam Braatz but no Naval?

Gauld 28

@YellowJacketI played absolutely as a midrange deck, but early board presence is a huge factor, when you play the deck.

@jaypeedaylee This is my own version, I have seen Sam’s deck, and I have to admit it, his deck is really good, but i did not understand some of the card choices. Naval is a very good card, but i don’t think that countering your opponent’s income and getting 2 gold is better than playing your own game, and gaining a better board presence early. And also there is the chance that your opponent is starting with Calm Over Westeros and you just get wrecked by your own plot.

SizemattersHS 14

Naval is good but very situational, if you can read your opponent thoughts and somehow knows or predict the next plot he is playing, then use Naval to counter that plot

How would a Summons fit over Heads on Spikes to pull in that Left or Right when you need it?

SizemattersHS 14

@jaypeedayleeFor me, Summons basically you wanna search for characters that you really need especially Varys. Using Summons to search for Left or Right is now really that great.

Perhaps @Gauldcould explain more on this?

Red Viper has been underperforming in my games so far. I would easily swap him for Tarly and switch Doran’s game for Heartsbane. Also, I’d never leave home without 3 Confinement in any deck that runs Martell.

@jaypeedaylee @YellowJacket I really like Heads on Spikes in Martell because it has been very good with Ghaston Grey for me. I can see playing Summons instead of Filthy Accusations, Calling the Banners or even Heads on Spikes. It’s a good idea, but I felt like most of the time the low initiate value is really bad for Martell. You really want to go second most of the time, to use Sunspear and Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.

@HidaHayabusaI use Red Viper just for have a huge guy, who is hard to deal with, and also for the mini Reown ability to fast your late game. I tested with Tarly and didn’t really liked him. He dies too easily from Tears of Lys, and you have to adjust your locations to make him easier to marshall. I also tested a lot with 3 Confinement and I’ve felt like that it’s a little underperforming because most of the games end game all about the huge guys. The decks hardest matchups are Baratheon and Targaryen where Confinement isn’t really doing anything. So that’s why i swapped it with Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken which has been much more useful for me.

Well, Tears of Lys shouldn’t be a problem to handle with this deck. If anything, you have access to the most powerful and numerous Intrigue heroes in the game. So I’d say that it’s not easy for the opponent to get a Lys going.

Confinement is amazing early on, which is where this kind of decks need most help, actually. It’s a quite active event, rather than having a passive ability from triple U.

Hi @Gauld, I like the idea of Heads on Spikes after the use of Ghaston Grey, but theoretically speaking one copy seems enough… what do you think? I would try A Game of Thrones or The Long Plan as a replacement. And what about Arianne Martell? I usually play 2 copies because she’s strong but you don’t need duplicates on her… have you ever had some “dead” draws because of her?

SizemattersHS 14

I believe @Gauld is trying to make the deck his own, and this is a midrange deck instead of the control deck that Sam Braatz piloted at Worlds. I still prefer Summons over Head on Spikes.

Gauld 28

@HidaHayabusa I’ve found out in testing, that you just can’t defend all the Intrique challenges. I still think Randyll Tarly is a fine choice, just it never worked for me. I’ve felt like Tarly needs huge adjustment to work at it’s full potential. I can only say try out a more heavier Tyrell build with Confinement, and I’ve would be glad if you can write down how strong it is. I’ve tested it just somehow didn’t work for me.

Hi @GuardianOfTheFlame Game of Thrones backfired me sometimes in my testing, but i still think it’s a very good choice in the deck. The new chapter pack wasn’t available at my store when the event started, so I couldn’t try out The Long Plan. I have mixed feelings about it, it’s just a huge gold boost with low Initiative. I have to test with it and then I can make a better opinion on that. I like Game of Thrones and Summons better for now. Heads on Spikes is just ridiculous, the big characters are just so important at this stage at most of the deck, that hitting one is just gamebreaking sometimes. Also I really like the huge Initiative value (you really want to go second most of the time). So I would keep playing 2 going forward. I like the 3 Arianne because when you draw her, you just get a different game. Putting Hotah, Margaery, Olenna’s Informant and the Knight of the Flowers in to the game in a challenge is just gamebreaking. I wouldn’t cut from her because she is just the core of the deck. Drawing the duplicate sucks, but drawing the first one just so huge.

@YellowJacketExactly. Summons is still a very good choice, good luck with the deck.

Gauld 28

By the way, I think from the new cards the only really good Martell card is Support of the People. Searching Ghaston Grey and/or Sunspear in the play will be absolutely huge.

SizemattersHS 14

@GauldIm just curious, what changes would you make with the new TTB chapter pack

HidaHayabusa 73

@GauldThe deck I am using and does amazing for me is this one (http://thronesdb.com/deck/view/21032) . Arianne is the MVP and the Marched to the Wall is there in order for more Hotah’s copies to enter play. Also, getting high initiative plots is very important, since most of the times you need to go second. My point is that the main difference between the two approaches seems to be the focus on Tarly. The Viper is unfortunately unplayable for me, since handing 7g and getting a basic 7 str tricon isn’t really cutting it, if you check the other House’s high cost characters.

SizemattersHS 14

Currently im using this deck for tournaments (http://thronesdb.com/decklist/view/658/sam-braatz-s-worlds-winner-1.0). Still unsure on what to replace with cards from TtB.

Gauld 28

@HidaHayabusaI really like your decklist, I will give it a try.

@YellowJacket I’m not sure what is worth playing from TtB. Support of the People’s problem is that the effect is good in the early game, but you don’t want to win power challenges early. The Long Plan seems like a plot that is worth to test and I think from Sam’s decklist maybe the plot to change is either Calling the Banners, or the 2nd Summons.

SizemattersHS 14

@GauldThanks bud, i feel that this chapter pack help GJ more and its gonna shape the meta towards more GJ decks. The Long Plan seems ok to me, perhaps i will replace it with CtB and will do some testing with it.
