Soulpact 1
Fun, unique and intricate deck that I've had a lot of success with, here's the breakdown;
Heavy control and shenanigans type power accumulation deck, with a lot of solid characters to ensure you can always make the challenges you NEED to (and often times all the challenges you want to) while simultaneously stopping your opponent from doing the same.
There are quite a few staples in the deck, but also some card choices you might be questioning, so here's the synergies that might not be obvious;
Characters:
Arianne Martelladds a lot of power to Nymeria Sand and Melisandre, most people would agree to this but maybe they don't fully understand why. Since going first with Melisandre is less than ideal (she is much stronger going second when you see all of your opponents characters and kneel the best one), Arianne can help you if you're forced to play first. Nymeria is amazing, but its risky to play her as first player because your opponent has a marshaling phase to Milk of the Poppy her (making her literally useless) before you can use her in challenges.
[Sidenote: Arianne Martell can also be reduced by your Desert Scavenger, and Melisandre cannot, so it's actually cheaper to play it out that way.]
Edric Dayne, Fiery Followers, Greenblood Trader,House Dayne Knight, Palace Spearman, Royal Entourage; These are all really good chumps that are either very well costed for their icons/strengths or have an immediate impact when played. Royal Entourage fits very nicely into this deck since Martell is a premier intrigue house, and the Fiery Followers trigger Melisandre. Edric Dayne usually sits there all game since the deck is very low econ, but the versatile stealth can prove to be invaluable.
The Red Viper, just the 7 cost beater. Not much more to it. Play him if you feel confident the investment will be returned, but the deck can definitely win without him.
Maester Caleotte and Maester Cressen are both fantastic, the later in the deck primarily to cure Milk of the Poppy, but he's also very handy for icon adding attachments like Little Bird.
Nymeria Sand Is such a good card, and a key piece to this deck as well as Martell as a faction. Hundreds of tricks with her. Remember, she isn't a Lady so you really need to plan your plot properly!
King Robert's Warhammer I expect this to be one of the most questioned cards in the deck, but here are the reasons I felt like it was the strongest option; +1 Strength. Seems meh at first, but when you look at the two main characters of the deck, Nymeria and Melisandre, you might notice that they are both at the very scary strength value of 4. If you don't understand why 4 is scary, its because of cards like Dracarys! and Confinement that use Str 4 as a limiter. Ontop of the +1 being great for their defense, it can also help you win games! If you can raise their strength to 5, you only need one of them to get through on an intrigue to trigger Doran's Game! This is very relevent. (Note that the Warhammer opens up Doran's Game for Arianne Martell and Palace Spearman as well.) The secondary effect of the hammer is less important, but has synergies with the deck's blow out ability, and its minor dominance theme.
Plot Deck:
A Noble Cause, Calling the Banners,Summons,Wildfire Assault are all pretty staple.
Political Disaster, is another card I imagine to be questioned. Ghaston Grey and The Kingsroad are locations that don't stick around, so Political Disaster can really catch your opponents for A LOT of card advantage, especially vs decks that are playing high economy or commanding a Greyjoy fleet. (both popular in my meta) This is why the deck doesn't play The Roseroad.
Calm Over Westeros We needed a second 5 gold plot to ensure the ability to play Nymeria without using up the A Noble Cause which is essentially the only way to get out Viper or can be used to Combo Melisandre and another Rhyllor card.
Here to Serve to fetch whichever Maester you don't get first. I usually wait till I see one of the two before I play this plot, but if you have to you should probably pull Cressen since there are 3 Caleotte.
Piloting Tips: The deck is really low economy, so you have to really play smart with your plots and The Kingsroad. You want as many cards on the board as possible for the start of game flop, but avoid the Rhyllor if you can. You should focus on playing out your small efficient guys at the start to protect your key pieces, and using your control to subdue their powerhouse uniques. Don't be afraid to trade power since Chamber of the Painted Table can give you the edge and stall until you get the sudden win with Doran's Game.
