Brought this to 2nd place at a store championship only losing to Night's Watch/Banner of the Lion (setup of Benjen Stark and turn 1 Maester Aemon made getting unopposed challenges off really difficult the entire game, as well as nulling my military challenges). This deck is not going for the initiative bid, it wants to play second just to get better value on challenges, but doesn't mind going first.

Agenda:

This deck started construction as Greyjoy/Banner of the Sun for icon removal to get unopposed easier. But I really couldn't figure out what 12 cards to cut to get the Martell cards in. So I went with Fealty and I'm really glad I did. The 1 gold discount on my loyal cards is really good, allowing me to We Do Not Sow with no gold going into challenges, as well as playing Balon/Euron/The Reader slightly cheaper. Because I don't use the discount too often, that still leaves my faction card open to use the Chair when needed.

Plots:

A Noble Cause and Calling the Banners are the money plots. I drop these when I have a big guy to drop like Balon or Euron. There's a lot of lords/ladies in the deck so A Noble Cause also helps drop The Reader, Theon, and Asha, Aeron, or even the Newly-Made Lords. I really wish I ran 2, but...

2 Summons was huge. Usually my first 2 plots of the game were Summons just to find my pieces of Balon, Asha or The Reader.

Confiscation is a given with so many milks and such floating around. Burning a Seal of the Hand on an opponent's Khal Drogo was key to winning in one game.

Rise of the Kraken was the closer. 2 claim, a ton of stealth in the deck (and fishing net) means unopposed is fairly easy to get...unless they're Night's Watch/Benjen Stark. haha.

Supporting the Faith. Last minute addition, mostly for the 6 gold stat, but I would rather it be something else if I were to play this deck again. I think a Feast for Crows would be a better choice.

Characters:

Fairly standard choices here.

3x of both Balon and Asha because they're the nuts, especially with Little Birds.

1x Syrio for another stealth body, 1x Littlefinger for card draw, 1x Maester Wendamyr for cheap power stealth, 1x Euron. Euron was so game changing whenever he hit the table I would consider running a 2nd copy, but the cost curve is already pretty high and don't want to mess up the setup phase too much.

3x Newly-Made Lord is great at sniping key locations like Plaza of Punishment, opposing Great Kraken, The Red Keep, etc.

2x The Reader for the card draw, 2x Theon for another stealth body and fake renown, 2x Aeron for recusion.

Then I filled out the curve with 3x Salty Navigator, 2x Lordsport Shipwright, and 3x Drowned Men. Because of the high cost curve, I think I would rather have Black Wind's Crew instead of the Drowned Men, but also because I'm not running that many boats so Drowned Men don't get that much value on their cost.

Attachments:

3x Little Bird for Asha and Balon. Plus Greyjoy is light on intrigue, so having sources for them is really helpful. 3x is definitely the right number.

2x Fishing Net. This is the MVP of the deck and considering going up to 3x. Permanently "stealthing" a guy is the nuts. Since I'm not going for the initiative bid, this is better than The Kraken's Grasp or Raiding Longship.

1x Seal of the Hand. Great on Balon or Euron. Really solid attachment, but I would never want to draw more than 1.

Locations:

Pretty standard here. Not running Support of the People so I'm running 2x Great Kraken and 2x Seastone Chair, and hoping to draw into them. The Reader really helps in getting to them so the support is unneeded. 3x Iron Fleet Scout for the set up and to mess up challenge math.

3x Sea Tower, Kingsroad, and Roseroad is the econ land package.

Events:

2x Risen from the Sea is a good save. Not much to say with this one.

3x The Hand's Judgement. I love this card. There's so many events that need to be stopped like Dracarys!, Put to the Sword, Tears of Lys, etc. Since I want to go 2nd, I know much money my opponent is taking into challenges and can plan accordingly.

3x We Do Not Sow. Not sure 3 is the correct number here, but I love the location/attachment control it provides. Nailing an opponent's Kingsroad before Euron's pillage trigger skyrocketed my economy. Also helps getting rid of pesky milks and such.

I am thinking about something very similar to take with me during this weekends store championshit. I have been playing GJ with Tyrells for a few weeks. I quite enjoy it but with the King's Peace I'd like to go GJ Fealty. My only concern with this deck is the economy. Did you feel like you were struggling with it? Also how bad was Seastone Chair in Fealty deck? Would you consider this deck easy to pilot? I will be participating in the championship after my work, so I'd like something relatively easy :)

Also, question about Newly-Made-Lord, do you HAVE to trigger the ability once you play him? And would that mean that its effective on your own locations too?

@JuSTiN

The economy was working smoothly, I never felt like I was lacking. This has a lot to do with the 3 plots I choose to be high econ. Only the set-up was awkward sometimes with so many 4+ cost cards in the deck. I would probably replace the Drowned Men with Black Wind's Crew to help with that.

The deck has surprisingly few loyal cards, with Balon, Euron, and The Reader being the the ones you're most likely to kneel your faction card for. So you're not going to get much econ benefit for it, but the 1 cost discount on those three is significant. This also means that the Seastone Chair is active more often than not, and turning it off is worth dropping the three I mentioned.

I don't think the deck is hard to pilot, but you need to mulligan aggressively. You really want Asha, but not to set up with her, to put on the early pressure. So you're looking for 3-4 cheap setup cards (at least one of which is a econ card) and drop Asha on the first turn off a Summons to find Balon, Euron, or the Reader. Then you either going to Summons again if you didn't find them, or A Noble Cause to play Balon, Euron, or the Reader.

The worst match up for the deck is going to be Night's Watch, because Benjen just shuts down the stealth game and Aemon soaks military challenges like no other. Targ isn't so bad if you make sure you take 1 gold into challenges with The Hand's Judgement, and use Seastone Chair to disassemble the Power Rangers (Drogon et al). The mirror can be tough, but fishing nets can really help push through unopposed by taking out opposing stealthers.

Since Newly-Made Lord isn't a Forced Reaction, you don't have to trigger it.

Thanks a lot for such a fast and thorough reply :) I still cannt decide between GJ/Rose and very close variantion of your deck. As for Rose banner I play, a setup of 5 cards is most of the time, sometimes even 6 card setup is possible. In your deck I think that 4 card setup is already very good. Wonder how important that can be.

I see you are very very sure about Summons? :) It really proved that much worthy?

Thanks for clarifying Newly-Made Lord.

Summons is such a huge enabler for the deck. The Reader (in addition to Great Kraken) is your draw engine, so finding him quick is really good. Since you don't have that much intrigue icons, you'll be losing cards left and right so you need to be to draw more. Also, Balon and Euron are game altering to where you really want to drop them as soon as possible. At it's worse, it'll find you a military soak.

My deck is built around working with a few high powered characters, so that a Wildfire Assault won't set me back that much. So while I'm not packing it, my opponents won't want to drop it either but that does mean the deck is susceptible to swarms. So switching Supporting the Faith for a Wildfire Assault is reasonable.

Also, since I'm dependant on a few core characters, The Hand's Judgment is extremely important. So many sure you're carrying gold into challenges to stop any Dracarys! or Tears of Lys, even if you're bluffing.

Hey, @BlueSapphyre, thanks a lot for so much information.

At the early stages of testing your deck did you consider 3X Euron Crow's Eye, maybe istead of Theon Greyjoy? I'm somehow not very satisfied with him. And perhaps 3X Great Kraken?

Also, the new Agenda (The Lord of the Crossing) is really tempting. Did you think about including it or testing it with your deck? -1 STR is not a big deal in a deck with stealth and +1 power on the last challenge sounds very sweet. Though I guess its quite a big gamble and little consistency if such agenda were to be included.

BlueSapphyre 131

@JuSTiNYou don't want 3x Euron because it really hurts your gold curve. Even a 2nd Euron is hard to fit in without messing up your set up. The only reasonable way I could see doing that, in this deck, is to go 2x Balon and 2x Euron. But Balon is just so good that I can't see cutting one. Theon gives you another stealth and fake renown, so he's a good body to have around. Maybe if you swapped 1 of the Summons for A Noble Cause, then your economy could support another Euron, but your setup is still going to take a hit for it.

As for a 3rd Great Kraken, I would rather find room for Support of the People first. I think 2 is the right number because you never want to draw more than 1, but if you're finding yourself never hitting it, then a 1-of SotP should help. The issue is to what neutral to cut to make room for it...and I think the neutral slots are better than a 1 of support.

As for The Lord of the Crossing, the deck is very light on intrigue so it's rare you'll have 3 challenges.

JuSTiN 2

@BlueSapphyre, I made some minor adjustments to your deck, just made it public for you to see. I think I settled on the that one, mainly because I think the starting setup is a bit better then your deck's, although I'd like your blessing :D

Thank you for going into so much detail. I've been trying to figure out Greyjoy and this answered a few of my questions.

JuSTiN 2

@kuvnynto glad we helped :) Though I did not do good with my interpretation of this deck :(
