Knight Of The Blackwater 136
Hello All
I have been asked to post this up here. I piloted this Martell Fealty deck to win a small Store Championship, going undefeated on the day. I was going to run Targ/Fealty but I took a second deck when I heard they were struggling for numbers and so we had no mirror matches, something we all agreed on, I swapped to Martell. But why did I even have a Martell deck on me? Well for two reasons, one I had won a Martell play mat when I came second at the previous tournament with a Greyjoy/Fealty deck. I then moved onto Greyjoy/Sun deck partly because of the mat and partly because one of the guys was running GJ/S on the day and the deck looked great. We chatted for a bit and he gave me his list, I used it and had fun with it but I started to struggle on the build once Nymerai and the Reader were released (too many good cards). So struggling for ideas I was listening to an older episode of Banter Behind The Throne. They built a Martell/Fealty deck and they seemed to think it had legs, so I thought I would give it a go. It was working fairly well for me with an above average win/lose ratio on Octgn. Once I heard The King's Peace was legal for the SC I tweaked the deck to get Attainted in and as they say the rest is history.
The plan with this deck is simple. Slowly build up to a turn 5/6 power rush while slowing the opponent down with Milk of the Poppy, Nymeria and Attainted. This combo also allowed me to attack the opponents hand and get UO challenges in the early and later turns. Around turn 3 I would normally plan The Long Plan followed by Counting Coppers. This combo normally let me find the missing pieces for the rush at the end. I need to point out I was losing every game for the first three or four turns before rushing past at the end.
MVP's of the deck, The Red Viper, Attainted and Doran Martel. The Red Viper is the power gainer, getting me 10 power in one game. I do wish he had Renowned instead of his special rule, but it's crazy how far he gains power towards the end of the game.
I'm thinking of taking it to another SC this weekend to see if this was a fluke or if I'm onto something :-)
Thanks Ben

Not really, the deck worked well. I didn't miss the 3rd Greenblood Trader or House Dayne Knight. I felt it I had enough draw and I didn't lose many characters to claim. Ghaston was fine at 2 as once it went down it stopped most of the big characters from attacking as I has already battered their hand. I didn't use it's ability once all day. I would like a 3rd Tears of Lys but I don't know what card I would drop for it. I feel I need the 2x Hand's Judgment, Milk and Seal. Maybe a Kings or Rose road or Syrio. Syrio was amazing in one game, got Wildfire'd in one and I didn't see him in the first game. I'm going to play the deck more and I might tweak it then. Thanks Ben |
One change I might make is swapping Fealty for Lords of the crossing. |
After playing, are there any changes you would make? Did you miss 3rd Ghaston Grey, Doran's Game? What do you think about removing 2nd Seal of the Hand, maybe Obara Sand for 3rd Tears of Lys/Greenblood Trader/House Dayne Knight? Congrats on your win!
