Super sweet deck! Did you ever find the lack of kill a downside? How do you compensate?

Congrats on the win again, Lady Jean!

@kennish Thank you so much! I did get a lot of help from our in-house deck doctors in tweaking the deck which was also inspired by @mpkutz's awesome deck!

I found that I didn't need kills and just needed to keep my board strong so that I could swing for power. So what was more crucial was having economy to load up (Trading with the Pentoshi/Calling the Banners) the saves were great against aggro decks, some weenies for cheap drops to initiate the 1st 2 challenges so I could get to the 3rd, and Nightmares was really handy tech in getting those challenges through to grab power. Weapons at the Door also proved to be a good option for a power swing as opposed to just having Rise of the Kraken when I had enough board state and wanted to go first because I could also get rid of all attachments (Milk of the Poppy, the many Martell ones on my characters and opponent's attachments to reduce their edge). Cool thing is that in that instance, Risen from the Sea gets to stay on the board because it's an event not a printed attachment heehee.

Having been on the receiving end of a beatdown dealt by this deck, I can honestly say that it sure proved to be a meta-killer in the top 8. Throughout the tournament, I brick walled challenge after challenge with my version of the HoD Gates Stark Fealty but I just couldn't deal with the pressure mounted by this Greyjoy deck. Props again to Jean for the win. It was the most fun I had losing.

@kennish: I think people are starting to move away from the targeted kill suite because of the popularity of Stark Fealty. Hesed and I actually had the same conclusion the weekend before my flight to SG but I was too stubborn and snuck in 2 copies of Ice in my deck that was never any use. hahaha

This deck was very scary Being on the receiving end of it on that day the pressure of facing it is very real quick note - go look at the pictures those of us who faced it apparently clasps our hands to our faces pretty often while pondering how not to lose a substantial amount of power each and every turn.

Definitely took the meta by surprise especially weapons at the door, its always been a underused plot but that day was a real winner.

We have a video of the match - it was difficult for my deck should post it soon Before the battle ( I had finished my top 8 match and was awaiting the winner between @Khal El and @geenetlee. at board state it looked to be a difficult decision.

while scouting their decks I was hoping the starks could power their way through to a win to give me a more favorable match up for my control based Targ Banner of the sun deck.

Well executed plot choices destroyed any chances of turning things around

Watch out for the return of the salty sea dogs in the singapore meta after this. they are just going to get faster

Weapons at the Door is a good plot!!

Thank you for the deck list and tournament information. When the new pack is legal, do you see Pyke fitting in? How would you make room if so?

geenetlee 90

Thanks @Khal El! Really nice of you to say that, I had fun too :D so cool getting to meet and play with someone from another country, a first for me!

geenetlee 90

Hi@MeatLoafX, don't mention it, more than happy to share! I think Pyke would definitely be a really good option because Raiding Longship can be negated very easily if I'm not first player, or if the character has attachments and can only work in defence. So it would be fun to maybe swap out a Raiding Longship and a Iron Fleet Scout for Pyke and see how it changes things up.

Gratulations to you big result! Did the 2 Seal of the Hand copies their job? I like 1-2 Seals, but usually in a Confiscation deck with some Milks.

geenetlee 90

Thanks @RoflRoy! They did :D Think I got to use them once or twice, not crucial but definitely allows for more options when the big guys are out or to get dominance. I found Weapons at the Door more useful than Confiscation as tech against opponents' Milks etc. and gives higher initiative which the GJs always love :p

@geenetleecongrats for the win! is Marched to the wall really necessary in this power rush deck? Or do you think that can be switched with something else? ^^

RoflRoy 22

I guess there are some interesting plots to play with... second Heads on Spikes, A Clash of Kings to seal the game if you failed with kraken, Varys's Riddle or even Snowed Under. Even a second Wildfire Assault can be interesting.

geenetlee 90

@akenathon80 thank you! :D good point! @RoflRoy is right about the possible alternatives. But my experience during my games was that it was still a good option to have if your opponent took the risk to put down only 1 big character on setup, or if they only have say 3 big characters on the board. Despite being a power rush, some defensive options are still helpful.

RoflRoy 22

@geenetlee I totally agree. Whenever I take Marched out for experimenting I find myself in situations where I want it badly!

RoflRoy 22

@geenetlee Some additional questions: Did you face any Bara, Tyene, Mirri? I am afraid that Nightmares will not do the job if facing a good setup/1st round board of a Martell player. I did well with this vs. Stark, but afraid of no Milk against Martell, Bara, Mirri...

geenetlee 90

@RoflRoy I can't remember whether I did, but anyone facing Tyene Sand or Mirri Maz Duur from setup/1st round would defo have to play more defensively. At that point I would just will all my saves to hurry up and come on out haha
