This is my Martell banner to Lion mini curve deck I have been playing on my live stream lately. You can also see the thoughts behind the deck in my first episode of Deckbuilding Corner on my YouTube channel.

I like it, but…

Have you tried more copies of Arianne Martell and including Blood Orange Grove to help pay for the Wildling Hordes and The Hound? Also, I think that with Taking the Black, Ser Jaime Lannister can effectively be replaced with The Hound which you can loop with Arianne Martell to consistently get high STR challenges through.

I may update my own version now that Taking the Black is out. The Hound is just so good.

Totally agree with agktmte about Arianne Martell. She is the best card in my Martell Watch Mini-curve deck, and ate two Milks in my last melee game because a free Areo Hotah or Wildling Horde from a knelt character can really mess with challenge math.

And The Hound is going to be amazing in all the decks, though Ser Jaime Lannister is the only source of renown here. I’d probably stick with Ser Jaime Lannister, since you’re running six kill events tied to his icons.

@chrsjxn I would counter that you don’t need Ser Jaime Lannister to push through Tears of Lys and that The Hound does a better job at pushing Put to the Sword. Also, the bouncing in and out of play is better than the renown since you are running Varys. It’s hard to make room for both, but I would certainly want to try 2 or 3 copies of The Hound in the deck and cutting Ser Jaime Lannister to make room seems the best option.

@agktmte Fair. The Hound is incredibly safe from kill effects of all kinds, which could be key with an emphasis on Varys. But being stuck on 2 power a round (more or less), assuming you win a power challenge and dominance is just a little too slow for my tastes.

Can someone please explain reason to have The Tickler in the deck? I don’t see the synergy with other cards… Is he there just for being a cheap guy with potentially good ability?

Tickler is basically just a 4th House Dayne Knight. 2 gold for 2 strength with the two best icons is great by itself.

So I played a version of this last night and went 4-2. The 2 losses were both to Targ, and it wasn’t even close. Is anyone else seeing the same thing, or do I need to learn to play Targ better?
