I built this deck for a local Winter 2015 kit game night tourney.
Normally would not mention anything but this deck is scary close to a deck Scantrell24 posted about 9 days ago with only a 4-5 card difference so I must have been channeling him. So props to him for a great deck; I like the way you think !
My goal with this deck was firstly to handle Greyjoy (Balon Greyjoy’s ability and The Seastone Chair in particular) and Secondly Targ. Both decks are played heavily in my meta and expected at the tourney.
The high strength keeps you out of Dracarys! range and can count Strength against Balon. The many attachments keep your renown characters safe from the Chair.
Lastly the deck wants to rush to a win using the renown dudes Tywin Lannister, Randyll Tarly, The Knight of Flowers, Ser Jaime Lannister,
It was a small tourney of only 8 people (but all were fierce of character, strong of will and cunning with cardboard) I went undefeated
1st game
vs Tyrell/Lanni banner
I got out Tywin early with a Seal and he took the game home almost single handedly as my opponent had a less than optimal set up and did not draw into any income to play out enough to keep up with my power rush.
2nd game
vs Bara/Rose Banner
This one I was worried a little as the kneel came early and often, but then it stalled for a few turns and I had managed to get out the trio of Tywin/Tarly/Knight o’Flowers and with them unchecked and Tyrion to stealth by Robert, I won the power rush race.
3rd game
vs Targ/Fealty
This one was over pretty quick, a first turn Tears of Lys on Khal Drogo and my opponent not getting the Daenerys Targaryen package up and running until I was at 13 or 14 power was too much to overcome.
4th game
vs Greyjoy/Martell banner
I was ready to play Greyjoy Fealty but did not expect the Martell twist. I was fortunate not to run into a Maester Caleotte and to have my renown guys protected from the The Seastone Chair with positive attachments. The game could have went badly early but a well timed ambush of Widow’s Wail on Joffrey Baratheon prevented an unopposed Asha Greyjoy military attack before I had any protection from the Chair keeping Tywin alive.
overall thoughts
The deck preformed way better than I thought it would, (Was going to play Lanny/Banner of the Wolf as that is my current deck I am playing but wanted to bring a surprise the guys would not be ready for) The renown guys were monsters and closed out games way faster than I could have anticipated with no testing, especially with A Clash of Kings.
It was fun times in the Maritimes and then we all went for beer and wings. Looking forward to the next event
Congrats on the win! Where in the Maritimes was the tourney?
