CRCL 100

This deck evolved from my Tyrell-Rains deck, and after playing it a few times in our league, I think it works pretty well (it's by no means perfect). It's playing fairly similarly to most Tyrell-Rains decks; get out you big guys, and gain power via renown and the power challenge. You lose the flexibility of the "The Rains of Castamere" agenda, but gain the arguably better flexibility of the dragon banner, which pairs incredibly well with Tyrell main house. Mirri's trigger is threatening the intrigue challenge, rather than Rains, forcing your opponent to over commit to it, or risk losing key characters.

Most of the cards are self explanatory, but for the banner cards and all the rest, here's the reasoning:

-Mirri Maz Duur is in the deck replacing Jaqen H'ghar from my original Rains version. She gives you threat on multiple challenges and pairs incredibly well with Margaery Tyrell (Core), Highgarden, and Offer of a Peach. Her primary function though, much like Jaqen, is to draw all the hate like Milk of the Poppy, Nightmares, Treachery, and Craven. This leaves Randyll Tarly, and Renly Baratheon (FFH) (relatively) free from harassment to win you the game. If she gets her ability off, that's a bonus.

-Plaza of Pride is, in my mind, a Tyrell card. You have the draw to take advantage of it, you have several expensive dead draws you can throw away to stand your seven costers (most notably dupes of The Arbor), and failing that it's always nice to stand Margery then use her to stand Randyll or give Mirri another +3 str. Between this and Crown of Golden Roses, you should never have a useless card in hand.

-Shierak Qiya is another great card for Tyrell. Winning Power challenges by 5 is fairly common for Tyrell, and getting another use out of Randyll, Mirri, and/or Renly will win you games. Add to that the fact that the event costs zero, can be used on defence, and there's nothing else that taps the faction card in the deck. It can always be used to stand Margery with Plaza of Pride too.

-Magister Illyrio is in here to take advantage of all the spare gold you'll have playing Tyrell. Renly participating in multiple challenges is amazing and can quite easily draw you 2-4 cards for further use with the Plaza of Pride. Obviously Mirri and Illyrio are BFFs too.

-Quaithe of the Shadow, and Ser Jorah Mormont are in here purely to make up the banner requirements. I've essentially just swapped them in to replace 2x Arbor Knight in the 2 cost slot. Jorah's renown and Quaith's ambush/interrupt are also occasionally useful.

-Left and Right are in here mostly because Qhorin Halfhand(/card/04105) is fairly common in our meta, so they're good chuds to counter him. Also Summons, and Alerie Tyrell allow you to get out the dream-team fairly often. They could always be swapped for 2x Arbor Knight, Courtesan of the Rose, or Wildling Scout, depending on your preference.

-The Knight of Flowers and Brienne of Tarth are both solid renown bodies, though I am currently considering swapping one for 1x Syrio Forel, just to make Mirri even more of a threat. Syrio also gives me some much needed stealth, and draws more hate than the other two, but I'll have to test that change out.

-Offer of a Peach is actually a placeholder until "Lord Renly's Ride" is released. It's still a solid card and (like Highgarden) allows you to manipulate attacks with Mirri and force your opponent to over or under commit. It's also handy defensively since it's not as telegraphed as Highgarden.

The plot deck is fairly standard, with a few personal favourites I've thrown in. Filthy Accusations is a solid utility plot that allows you to deal with a problem character like Tywin Lannister (Core) for a turn. It's not absolutely needed, so it could be swapped for something else depending on your preference. The same goes for Varys's Riddle. I like it simply because it's a solid stat line and you can usually hit something decent if you play it turn 2-4. It's also excellent against summer decks. Valar Morghulis is in there as an emergency reset, rather than one you want to use. The Arbor and Mirri can soften the tempo hit a bit too.

Hope people like it, it's quite a bit of fun.

Seems to be a funny deck. :) This is an interesting deckbuild.

Crown + Plaza seems to be too much discard. That give the card advantage to your opponent. It would be precious to make a choice.

You're not in RoC and have much INT characters. Why put an Appointed in the deck? I mean that would be nice with randyll but you could put in a more usefull card.

You have 23/30 unique characters. It could be more efficient to have 3x Great Hall instead of 3x The Roseroad.

@GetBackBaby: Thanks, I'm enjoying it.

Crown of Golden Roses and Appointed are mostly just holdovers from when the deck was a Rains deck. I like having 1x of each in there for Randyll Tarly and Brienne of Tarth, but you could always drop them to open up 2x card slots for Milk of the Poppy (or whatever else you want). The Crown is pretty great on Randyll though.

Guarding the Realm isn't out yet in Australia so I don't have access to Great Hall yet, but it would certainly be a good switch. I do like having both The Arbor and The Roseroad for offsetting Pleasure Barge though.

When Guarding the Realm comes out I'll probably try:

-3 The Roseroad for +3 Great Hall

-1 Crown of Golden Roses, -1 Appointed for +2 Milk of the Poppy

-2 Offer of a Peach, -1 Nightmares for +3 "Lord Renly's Ride"
