Hi guys,
I'm trying to create a solid bara fealty deck that can be a match for a meta composed by a lot of scary things: targ, lanny and greyjoy fealty.
I would try to create an up to date discussion in order to let this funny deck have the respect due to a King! :D
First of all, the ratio of some choices.
Characters
x2 Maester Cressen + Confiscation: it may sound a little redundant but we cannot have Stannis, Bob or Meli popped and Here to Serve with only one Cressen is not enough to ensure that. Moreover, if we draw Cressen the plot is wasted and Confiscation allows us to remove not only poppy but also other undesired attachment.
x3 Royal Entourage: under test. Very useful during the starting placement and cheap. We have to manage carefully every intrigue challenge.
No King's Hunting Party I've found difficult to manage it in terms of cost even if it could be very useful in mirror match.
x1 Syrio Forel: under test. Littlefinger bring us intrigue and power, gold and cards but Syrio gives us more defense against GJ and Daenerys Targaryen + Viserion adding some useful tricks with Bob and Stannis if needed.
x3 Moon Boy instead of x3 Vanguard Lancer: We need insight. Moreover it could be a good target for Dracarys!..one less for Meli & Co.
Plots
Standard plot-set for a bara fealty. I'll try to test #The King's Peace (probabily out Summons or Wildfire Assault)
Attachments
x2 Bodyguard: It prevents the trigger of several GJ abilities giving at the same time some support against Tears of Lys and aggro decks. However, it could suffer Treachery.
x3 Milk of the Poppy: under test (see the description of Support of the People). New characters like Nymeria Sand needs to be managed. An extra poppy for all the bad guys out there would not be an unwelcome draw.
Locations
x1 Chamber of the Painted Table and x1 The Iron Throne: almost all the location slots are occupied by the standard set (The Roseroad + The Kingsroad + Dragonstone Port) and we cannot avoid x3 The Red Keep.
Events
x2 In the Name of Your King! in place of x2 Ours is the Fury: under test. I really like the idea of an aggro deck trying to make a rush kill and being ruined by this card.
No The Hand's Judgment: under test. A difficult and potentially critical choice related to the lack of space and the partial support given by Seen In Flames.
x1 Support of the People: given the power control nature of our deck and the importance of the locations we have I think this is a key event to play. It would be nice to rise it to x2 maybe reducing by 1 Milk of the Poppy.
Now, my picture of our situation.
What we have:
- high military and power strength;
- control over the board through the "kneeling";
- one of the most powerful lock of the game (Meli, Stannis and Bob).
What we lack:
- intrigue strength;
- mid-cost characters with outstanding skills;
- money-money-money.
What we have to face:
Targaryen
One of the most fearful deck out there..high power, military and intrigue icons with infinite ways to kill your folks. We have to keep an eye for Dracarys! which can come everytime and everywhere with the help of Waking the Dragon and Fire and Blood, and ruin our game, not to mention other nasty cards like Plaza of Punishment and Crown of Gold. In addition, this useful deck provide its owner with a bunch of tricks to escape our kneeling strategy like Rhaegal, Handmaiden and Magister Illyrio.
I fear there's not an easy way to manage this kind of deck. We have some cheap characters made to be sacrificed in order to keep our key pieces safe and with Consolidation of Power, In the Name of Your King! and Melisandre we can stall the game and build our lock.
Greyjoy
We need to pay particular attention to the "location management system" of this deck. We Do Not Sow, Euron Crow's Eye and Lordsport Shipwright could be very painful if poorly managed especially when we need the boost of The Kingsroad to marshal our key characters. Moreover, their locations could be very treacherous.
We can manage them through the usual kneeling strategy, protecting our best characters with attachments and avoiding unopposed challenge with the help of Syrio Forel. I think that In the Name of Your King! will be a key event during these matchup.
Lannister
They are great in our greatest weakness: intrigue. We will need to pay attention to Tears of Lys and defending our hand will be very difficult. The great amount of ambush cards could help the lions avoid our kneeling approach. The Things I Do For Love and Treachery will be very difficult to manage as well.
As a control deck, the lanny will try to empty our hand and keep it empty as long as possible. We need to get rid of our key cards as fast as we can, trying to stall the game long enough to create sufficient board control to help us win as much as power challenge as we can. In that case some military pressure could serve. In this match-up I think that the current lack of The Hand's Judgment could be critical.
Stark
I think this deck will become more and more complete and even now it's a difficult match-up. Robb Stark, Bran Stark, Grey Wind, Catelyn Stark and Eddard Stark could trigger several nasty tricks in order to annihilate our kneeling strategy.
We need to manage them with poppy, kneeling Cat and Grey Wind and paying particular attention to the Lord of Winterfell. As military challenge will be very difficult to manage, In the Name of Your King! will be very useful here.
