Borrowed from Soltiris, who borrowed from Fruggles. Props to both for an interesting build!

As you'll see in the discussion on Soltiris' deck, have made some minor changes to characters (Handmaiden switched for Priest of the Drowned God and Braided Warrior for Salty Navigator.

I also changed the the Plot Deck, 5aking out Summons and Building Orders (which, may hurt the deck slightly, by not being able to hunt for Mirri Maz Duur or The Seastone Chair) to increase the overall economy and initiative. With Ahead of the Tide, you should almost always be able to go first.

From this, I then removed The Roseroad and replaced with Fishing Net to help with getting unopposed.

Happy to be of inspiration! :D

A thought: since you're down to 9 limited locations, maybe you don't really need Taxation? Some suggestions for some more "unconventional" plots I think would be interesting are

a) Close Call. I think it would be a nice surprise for when he's killed your Mirri Maz Duur and you draw into another one :)

b) Power Behind the Throne for when you really need to push the second Mirri Maz Duur challenge that round

c) Reinforcements for a marched or otherwise discarded Asha Greyjoy, Theon Greyjoy or Syrio Forel, or even Ser Jorah Mormont or a Lordsport Shipwright when you really need one.

d) Supporting the Faith can deny the opponent a Vengeance for Elia or Treachery on your The Seastone Chair, or even Put to the Sword on the comeback.

Good luck!

I was thinking of keeping Taxation for it's higher gold/initiative combo, but you did get me thinking... maybe switch it out for A Clash of Kings. High initiative and still gain "claim" from a Mirri challenge.

Reinforcements is another thought with it too I do like the thought of being able to get someone back if needed.

The only card draw is Ahead of the Tide? That seems rough.

Hi! Thanks for the shout-outs!

I do like the idea of dropping roseroads in favor of Illyrio's Estate - haven't tried it, but seems like it could be decent.

Relatedly, re: Taxation (@The_Red_Throne @Sotiris)- it's a relatively high gold plot with high initiative, and as I mentioned in my initial write-up, that's really why you play it. The ability is far less important.

Aside from that, I agree with @scantrell24 (something I do rarely and begrudgingly :P) that 3x Tide vs. Kraken is pretty rough on card draw, esp. without Counting

Anyways, nice looking ideas here, happy to see the deck is still floating around - keep on tweaking it!

The_Red_Throne 20

The card draw was a smal concern for me as well, but not sure how to best counter yet. I think Counting Coppers doesn't have the stats you need to make it worth it.

Was thinking of maybe trying to get a couple copies of The Reader in there; probably by taking out a copy of Syrio Forel and a copy of Theon Greyjoy.

Any other thoughts?

Sotiris 3

The Reader is definitely a solid card, I could think playing one in place of a Syrio Forel, but I wouldn't replace Theon Greyjoy. The main reason is the cost: with the reducers, he is essentially cheaper than Syrio Forel; with Theon Greyjoy it's the other way around.

How about trading one of your Fishing Nets for a Great Kraken?

The_Red_Throne 20

Definitely needs some draw. Only played one game (against Greyjoy/Sun), but lack of draw cost me the game (was up 14 to 6 at one point).

Will likely take out two copies of Syrio Forel for The Reader and one Fishing Net and one Iron Mines for two copies of Great Kraken.

Taxation actually worked really well. Was my opening plot and had Balon Greyjoy and Mirri Maz Duur out by the start round one challenges.

May play around with trading A Noble Cause or Trading with the Pentoshi for Counting Coppers though.

Interesting!

How did the game go? Any other observations apart from the card draw?

I have been thinking about the card draw thing as well. I still cannot update my list here, but I have edited the one in "my decks" and I have made the following changes, maybe they would be of some help:

1x The Reader for 1x Syrio Forel 1x Raiding Longship for 1x Great Kraken 1x The Roseroad for 1x Littlefinger 2x Priest of the Drowned God for 2x Salty Navigator 1x Braided Warrior for 1x Magister Illyrio: I had cut down on card costs up to this point, so I figured that the increase could be worth the reward....

I am very interested in getting to know if you are going to miss that 3rd Iron Mines!

Good luck!

The_Red_Throne 20

A couple observations from what I remember... getting Mirri and Balon out early was key. An argument could be made for Summons. The combo of Mirri and the Chair is just very cool.

Not having the Salty Navigators definitely hurt playing against the mirror that had them. Lost some initiatives late game that had an impact as it just put me at a far more defensive position than I would've liked.

The Fishing Nets were, as you had predicted might be the case, a little counter intuitive. However, with the Martell Icon Control I was facing, having a net on Theon let me get a couple unopposed challenges that helped with Rise of the Kraken. I'm not ready to take them out yet, but they are on the trading block.

I did end up having both of Mirri's icons blanked and all icons blanked at one point, which prevented me from getting a lot of use out of the chair.

We'll see about Iron Mines, but am considering replacing Priest of the Drowned God with Aeron Damphair to help compensate.

Thank you for the feedback!

By the way, I apologize for the way my previous post looks, the lines looked proper as I wrote it :P

Sorry to hear about the hard time with icon removal.... Do you think Confiscation could have helped removing those attachments (I'm assuming it was attachments and not just Nymeria Sand + Confinement)?

I had also thought that the initiative bonus from the Salty Navigators might be important.... Maybe some switching around could help both maintain the icon balance and get them back in? The build I mentioned in my previous post (since I can't update you can see it here: thronesdb.com) is up to 8 (I don't count the reducers) with 2x Salty Navigators in.

Could you elaborate a little on how Aeron Damphair would help in the situation you are describing?

The_Red_Throne 20

I don't feel like Confiscation would've helped that much. There were four or five attachments (various combinations of Condemned, Attainted, and Imprisoned) out at one point, plus Nym.

If anything, you'd want to look at Weapons at the Door. At least then you'd get a turn reprieve. It's high initiative, but super low gold; so I don't know if the trade off is worth it.

Getting Balon and Mirri out early, with the location reducers, made it so I didn't have to trade with the Pentoshi... I am considering cutting that one. Although I know this was probably the exception and not the rule.

With Aeron, he lets you put back into play an Ironborn character from your dead pile as long as you win dominance. You could choose to kil Theon and then bring him right back. Which makes Iron Mines less important. Plus, since he is unique, you can dupe him to guard against First Snow; of which this deck is a little susceptible to.

I actually think I just talked myself in to using him. You lose the from the Priest, but you gain it with The Reader. So, Budgdt Neutral, as they say in thd finance world.

The deck went 2-1 in our game night kit tournament. Finished 3rd/4th* (more on that in a minute) out of 9.

I threw in Naval Superiority over Wildfire Assault at the last minute in anticipation of our local meta not being ready for it, and happy to say I hit it two out of the three times, in both my wins.

The first match up was against Lanni/Crossing. Blanked A Noble Cause first turn and had Theon or Asha out on set up. By turn three I was up by seven or eight power and played Rise of the Kraken. I was able to jump out to an early lead, but he had I Never Bet Against My Family and Hear Me Roar! that stopped every unopposed challenge I had. The asterisk is for this game, however, as he did get out Ser Gregor Clegane and hit pillage, one such card pillaged was Balon Greyjoy, and we never triggered The Mountain's reaction. Thus, later, I was able to get Balon out again, which won me the game. We didn't realize the mistake until after the 2nd game had started.

So, while I won, the deck did so by doing something it shouldn't have been able to do. The big take away here is the lack of The Hand's Judgment or any other event canceling card really slowed the game down for me.

The second game was against Martel/Fealty. I opened with Naval Superiority again, but did not hit it, so I was at an immediate disadvantage from the start. Considering they got out Tyene Sand and Doran Martell during the first turn, and shut down all my with Attainted, I basically just sat and watched them play each turn while I was held to doing nothing. The game was over in three rounds.

I was planning on using We Do Not Sow for attachment removal, over Confiscation, but when you don't have any icons to even do challenges with, you're not going to win unopposed challenges.

The final game was against Bara/Fealty and once again I hit with Naval. I had Balon and Theon out first turn and they scooped by the end of turn four. It was just complete domination.

Didn't realize until the next day that the Gregor trigger is actually a reaction the opponent needs to initiate, so, even though I finished 3rd, I took 4th place prize(s) and let the guy I 'beat' take 3rd place prize(s) as an act of contrition.

The biggest issues I found were lack of event/attachment canceling/removal. Milk and/or nightmares are definitely needed, I think. I would glad trade out Fishing Net for Milk of the Poppy.

I didn't get Mirri Maz Duur out once, but all the Targaryen Loyalist and Illyrio's Estate found their way to the top of my deck easily. Considering there's a Trading with the Pentoshi in the plot deck, I'm thinking of taking out the reducers and replacing them with other Targ cards.

Although, I'm really thinking of taking out the entire Banner of the Dragon all together. Mirri is cool, but lacks just enough synergy, plus her cost, with Greyjoy unopposed that I'd almost rather have Euron Crow's Eye or Dagmer Cleftjaw in a Greyjoy/Fealty deck.

I think there's some potential here, but I will be going back to the drawing board a little bit to streamline the cards used. There definitely needs to be some more characters, as you just draw a lot of locations.

I'm actually leaning towards trying a Greyjoy Pillage/Location control deck that uses Drowned God's Blessing to prevent against some events (Put to the Sword, Nightmares, etc.). We'll see.

Sotiris 3

Congratulations! Sad to hear about the icon removal, but I guess that can be harsh for most decks.

It can happen that you don't see one of your key characters (case in point, Mirri Maz Duur) early in a game. In my long game, I had to go through more than half of my deck to finally draw her.

On one hand, realizing that she is a key character for the deck, made me include Summons and card draw (Great Kraken, The Reader, Counting Coppers).

On the other hand, the difference she makes is that, if you don't draw her, it is still an even game. If you do, almost a win :) I only played one out of, like, 5 games where I have Mirri Maz Duur and The Seastone Chair after setup. My opponent realizes I get to kill his board and calls it game. Sure, there are ways around it (for example, Stark can shut it off with Catelyn Stark defending Mirri Maz Duur and Winterfell on the military challenge), but it is not easy and it is not for every deck. I am rather certain that there might be some ways around the ways around it as well :P

The reducers are much appreciated cannon fodder for me, even if they don't actually reduce costs :P A case can be made for removing Illyrio's Estate if you need the slots, if you are confident in your economy.

Truth be told, it plays rather different than a traditional Greyjoy unopposed deck - that has been my experience, at least. I can't say if it is better or worse, I would say, though, that it is more a matter of playstyle and what you enjoy playing, regardless if you win or lose :)

Regarding the synergy thing, I see Mirri Maz Duur as another The Seastone Chair for non-military challenges :) Targeted kill on the board; with The Seastone Chair being loyal, Greyjoy is the only faction that can pull off both, I think.

As an endnote, I think that Banner of the Dragon would synergize excellently with a pillage deck, especially with Crone of Vaes Dothrak shenanigans :D
